Hair loss

Ok, so I know hair loss after pregnancy is normal but it is getting beyond a joke now. I'm forever removing my hair from DD's hands and off the rugs so that DD does not pick it up. I'll have no hair left at this rate and what's left of it is dry and brittle. I don't use a hairdryer or any other heat or other products.

However, I was recently away from Dubai for 4 weeks and lo and behold and suffered hardly any hair loss and my hair was much thicker, shinier and back to normal.

So I have started to wash my hair in bottled water - a bit of a faff but am hoping it will improve my hair. Do any of you ladies know if this will make a difference and does the brand of bottled water you use make any difference. For example are some brands virtually the same as the tap water? I can't fit a water filter so can't try that option.

I know this is perhaps not the right thread but thought it the best one as hair loss is more of an issue post pregnancy so thought other ladies may have some ideas?

Thanks kiwispiers, I'll try the vinegar or baking soda options as well.

I guess it could be to do with the hardness/softness of the water? don't know much about this but you might just be able to add baking soda or vinegar to the bath water instead (truly don't know anything about this) I think the hardness/softness also has an effect on rinsing out shampoo etc so you could use a treatment to remove residue. I think the temperature makes a difference too though, you lose more hair in the heat which might explain the not losing in the UK part too. And of course since you don't lose much hair during pregnancy, you do lose an alarming amount postpartum.

Thanks for the reply, I'm still taking pre-natal vitamins - it's definitely the water. My hair was back to normal outside of Dubai but before I went on holiday and now that I've got back, it's definitely 'Dubai hair'. I'm not stressed, do not lack any vitamins, etc. It's falling out more and more and can only be the water. Lots of my friends (not pregnant and not in post pregnancy stage) are experiencing the same as well. Too much of a coincidence for it not to be the water! As soon as I got back to the UK and washed my hair there I noticed a huge difference. This is also the same experience of many friends who left Dubai for a few weeks and returned. So if anyone has any hints on the best bottled water to use, it would be much appreciated.

I really don't think the water you wash your hair with makes any difference... i know that some women feel that continuing to take their prenatal vitamins after birth helps them strengthen their hair, so try that... otherwise don't panic, it will come back when it's ready :-)
