Your thoughts on Pediavit or any multi-vitamin?

Hi,
My DD is 13 months old, and for a while now I have noticed white spots on her nails. I know, from first hand experience that this is an indication of a vitamin deficiency. I have not taken her to the Dr yet, but just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on giving a toddler a multi-vitamin?!
I have always suffered from vitamin deficiencies, and currently am on 4 supplements as I show the same signs (white spots on nails), including others! Are these things hereditary?
