LJB2010 fingers crossed baby turns but if not, don't be too worried about a c-section. I had an elective c-section due to my baby's position and really, it wasn't bad/painful at all. I think emergency c-sections often have a much worse recovery (probably due to having already been in labour and the baby having moved down the birth canal etc and people scare you with horror stories). With my elective c-section it was all very easy, dropped suitcase/stocked fridge in room the night before, headed down to hospital in the morning, surgery started at 9am, baby out at 9:05am, (apgar scores of 9 and 10) stayed on my chest skin-toskin from 9:06am (part of my birth plan, check on that with your Dr) and everything after that was happy mummy lala land.
I was able to make a birth plan knowing I would have a c-section and speak with the anesthetist in advance to discuss my pain relief options. I had an epidural/spinal and then 24 hours of patient-controlled anesthesia via IV. After that I was fine with just panadol and only felt pain when coughing, laughing or getting out of bed, not bad pain either, more like a sprained ankle or something, my milk supply was not delayed/affected and breastfeeding worked out fine (a few hiccups, but not due to the section at all). So look on the bright side, you get to skip labour and will be mentally prepared for a cesarian. You might want to buy a changing table, much easier for nappy changing post c-section, and get a baby bath that can easily be put on a benchtop/table. Maybe organise a driver so you can get around easily for the 6 weeks you are not supposed to drive and buy some high waisted granny knickers and skirts so you don't have anything rubbing on your incision post birth (I just wore regular knockers and pants that sat below my bump during my pregnancy and realised after the birth that they sat right where the scar is (which by the way, 2 years post c-section is essentially invisible, the thinnest white line, just below the knicker line).
None of the acupuncture/ moxibustion / all fours / balancing ice cream on stomach worked for me so I went in for my ecv this morning. Unfortunately it didn't work either so I'm booked in for a Caesar on the 21. Dr. Elsa told me that often when it doesn't work it turns out to be for a reason, either the cord is too short or hooked around a shoulder. She tried to turn the baby a few times, it was definitely uncomfortable, but not as painful as I feared. A couple of times it really felt like it was working but then she popped back up. Her hb stayed fine the whole time and it wasn't particularly scary.
Lmao - if your lo is still breech I would recommend trying it, it really wasn't that bad and at least now I feel like I've given it my best. I'm going to keep trying the ice cream trick :-) but otherwise try to make peace with the idea of a cs and enjoy the last few days of my pregnancy.
Hi LJB.
Sorry to hear your baby is still breech. Went to see Dr Elsa today and mine is still being a little monkey too! Grrr!! Going to try the whole being on all fours thing, and plan to try the acupuncture and moxibustion too. Got to go back and see her again on the 12th and if she's still breech, will be booked in for ECV at week 37. Totally trust Dr Elsa, but not sure what I think about the procedure. Part of me thinks its worth a try, but the other part thinks maybe its not worth the risk of needing an emergency c-section and would be better off just booking one instead. How do you feel about it all?
Hope all goes well with your acupuncture today! Fingers crossed it does the trick. If you find you're not happy with the Dr you're seeing, I've been recommended a different one in Healthcare City called Dr Sharong. Would happily pass on the contact details if you want them! Keep us posted on how you get on! :) xx
Still breech :-(
I've been on all fours and enthousiastically working on the cold encouragement technique (that's the one where you set your ice cream on the top of your stomach with the hope that the baby doesn't like the cold and will move her head away from it.) I've also had my 2 yo singing at my crotch level but Dr. Elsa nixxed the diving in the pool idea so it looks like i might need to get my head around the c-sec as I've pretty much cycled through the options at this point.
I've booked my ecv and in the meantime am going for acupuncture at the chinese medical center next to City tomorrow. It's a pretty wild place, the dr doesn't speak english and during my whole appointment sat and giggled with the interpreter (who's english is still pretty approximate) while occasionaly looking at my tongue. Must say I'm not overly confident but it can't hurt. . .
At 32 weeks my baby was transverse breech and dr Elsa suggested to spend as much time on all fours crawling after my toddler as gravity tends to help too. By week 35 when I saw her again my baby had turned. Dubai herbal treatment centre near latifa hospital has the sticks I think.
Hi LMAO,
I'm 34 wks and she seemed to think that if the baby was going to turn on her own she would do it before my next appt at 36wks. The ideal time for an ecv is 36 weeks for first pregnancies and 37 for subsequent ones, so you have time. I think I'm going to try to set up a moxibustion appt for next week, will keep you posted!
Hi LJB,
Just wondering, how many weeks are you? Im almost 31 weeks and my LO is also breech at the moment. Im also under Dr Elsa but not seeing her til 28th and not sure when I should start thinking about trying to do something to make baby turn. If you do try moxibustion, keep us posted on how you go - would be really interested to hear! Good luck with getting your baby to turn!
Thanks for the replies! Does anyone know the ideal time to do moxibustion?
I'm seeing Dr. Elsa and she suggested the ECV. I've done a bit of research and apparently the success rate is about 60% for women who have already given birth and is fairly low risk so I guess there's no reason not to try if the rest doesn't work. My favorite suggestion so far was to play music at your crotch level to try to tempt the baby down :-)
Hi, I would also recommend a few visits to a chiropractor trained at Webster technique. I have been for two sessions and my uterus seems more relaxed (which is the aim), going for several more. Having moxo in Thursday too.
I dont know how many weeks you are but Im told by my OB and chiro that Webster technique should be done as early as 31-2 weeks ideally.
Good luck:)
Hi LJB,
have a look at this thread - might help
http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=153920
I did moxibustion & acupuncture together - I honestly think the first session did the trick - the wriggling for the rest of the day was outrageous! Worth a shot! Goodluck!
Hi there, I tried this as my ds turned to breach position at about 36 weeks, it didnt work for me unfortunately, the lady that helped me was Dr Oh, a chinese lady and you can do a search on here, I don't have her number but she is very good.
I ended up having the c-section and after two normal deliveries it really was not that bad, I'm curious that your Dr will try and ECV, mine wouldnt, hope things work out for you, good luck.
Hi everyone,
Just found out today that my little girl is breech. My Dr. says that there is still a chance that she could turn in the next two weeks and that if she hasn't we can try ECV. I've been doing a bit of reading on the internet and saw that some people have had luck with moxibustion (it's a sort of accupuncture done to your little toe.) Not really my style usually but I figure it can't hurt and so was wondering if anyone has done it in dubai or knows where one can do so? Also, has anyone had a succesful ECV? I guess I'll try as I'd really prefer to avoid a caeser but would love to hear some success stories. TIA!
