hi ladies i'm 24 weeks pregnant and having constant pain on my right lower side of my abdomen. the pain varies from a dull ache to sharp stabbing pain. the pain is there constantly. i sometimes feel like my appendix is going to burst from the pain. i went to my gynae a week and a half ago when the pain started and she checked and ruled out preterm labour ,thank God and did a urine analysis which came out clear. She also did a ultrasound and baby was perfect with God's grace.

the pain is still there currently and last night it was excruciating. my doctor says its just stretching pain but i have a nagging feeling it could be something more serious. i'm so worried about my baby :( Has anyone had similar symptoms??

pls help

Hi Pilatesmama, I hope you're feeling better now. I've just read your post and realised that I had the same kind of pain a few weeks ago about the same time as you did actually. I am 29 weeks now. I had a fibroid discovered on my big 20 weeks scan and in a few weeks it grew from 2 cm to 3 cm. So I had a sharp stabbing pain on that side where my fibroid was due to red degeneration. here is the article if you're interested: http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/physical_health/pregnancy/pregnancy_fibroids.shtml But I really hope that all is good now and pain has disappeared. :-) edited by dubai12 on 21/05/2012

I had it too, throughout my pregnancy. For me the pain was at its worst when I was stretching that muscle area, particularly when exercising on treadmills and doing weights etc towards the last stages of pregnancy. Guessing by your name you love pilates - have you been doing it since falling pregnant? I did a pregnancy pilates class all the way through until the end and always felt great afterwards. I got a special DVD for pregnancy and it worked wonders. The stretching always made me feel better : )

i had the same pain and it worsened as my pregnancy progressed. as long as you are not having any type of discharge or bleeding everything is fine. apparently some feel too much pain when their uterus starts expanding to accomodate the baby.

It may just be your uterus stretching and, if you were quite slim to start off with, chances are the weight of your growing baby is placing extra pressure on your muscles. I had awful, sharp pains in my lower abdomen and my legs during my 2nd pregnancy (from about 3mths) and this continued throughout the remainder of the pregnancy. If you're worried that it's something more serious, go back to your doctor and ask her to examine and scan your abdomen again. There's nothing worse than worrying all day and night that something is wrong with your baby.
