Hello Ladies, In the same boat with my other half. Any recent recruits that are there now? How is the accomodation? Any information you can provide will be much appreciated. My husband has been offered Grade 112, is that OK or enough? Thank you in advance.

Hey everyone! I know that this ia an old topic, but I have just been contacted by HMC for a senior managerial position. I would appreciate any feedback regarding couple enquiries: 1. What is Grade 113 like? 2. Does the top management have a STRICT Salary range that they hve to stick to (Governmental budget) or, is it all decided by the top management of the Hospital who interviews u ? Any previous experience is highly appreciated.

So here is the story so far. I have been offered a single person's contract. The company has "kindly " agreed to give me QR 6500 pm as accommodation allowance instead of their own single person's accommodation. Their tack is that I can't get a married work contract. So really, I am going to have to tell them to stuff it I think. Anyone in the same boat there who have brought their families and struggling in the accommodation? Or am i overreacting? UKmummy, how did you get on? jimjam01 are you there yet? Thnx Banu

Dear all, I'm Tory from Doha News. I'm working on a story about changes to RP processes, and I'm investigating whether women ARE still allowed to sponsor their husbands. Would any of you be prepared to talk to me? I will only use your name if you give me permission to do so. I'd love to hear about your experiences, even anonymously, so that I can write an accurate story. If you can help, please email me at [email protected] . Thank you! Tory

Hi All, I saw your post on HMC recruitment and was wondering if anyone would be able to answer a question on whether HMC give housing allowance or they just offer accomodation. My husband will be going there his grade will be 111-113. i see there are problems with housing delays. If an employee agreed would HMC offer the allowance for the above grade? Thanks in advance, Lizy.

I don't think it's HMC. Recently, in Education City there's been trouble getting visas for new employees. Makes it VERY awkward for everyone. The employer is powerless if MOI refuses to issue a visa. No use to ask "why", of course. There's never an explanation. Wasta helps sometimes.

I'd be nervous about HR making statements but not being willing to back it up in writing even in my home country. Perhaps you could ask to speak to one of those at your pay grade who has been able to do the sponsorship of children and/or husband? Surely they could ask someone already at HMC if they would be willing to speak with you if what they are saying is true?

Hi UK-mummy - sorry to hear about your troubles and sorry I can't help but I will be in the same situation as you when I arrive so its a huge concern for me. The company has stated that I can sponsor the children but its down to the immigration department (although i've been told by the recruiter that she has never known anyone on my grade who has been refused, but perhaps she is just saying that!!!) but reading your post it doesn't seem as striaght forward as they make out. Right now i'm panicking as I can't be without my children all that time and if there's a chance they can't stay with me under the same benefits then its pointless me dragging the family over there. What a nightmare you must be going through. Have they given you a reason why? I hope somebody will find a solution for you and I will follow this post with interest but good luck and fingers crossed for you.

Hi ladies, reading your post with interest.... ive been here nearly 3 months and have just brought my family over on a tourist visa because my family visa was rejected. I work for another government hospital in Doha and was employed on a married contract. There appears to be a big problem with family visa's being issued to women.... apparently women are no longer allowed to sponsor their husbands!!! (This was from the Captain in immigration) For me no visa= no family benefits (education etc) I may even have to go home! If anyone has any experience of this and has overcome it I would love to hear. Im currently making daily trips to immigration to fight my case and hoping they will make an allowance. If I do have to go home I will be seriously out of pocket and seriously disappointed. Im not ready to go home yet!

Whoops, should have explained! Usually when you arrive you'll be placed in a temporary apartment (highest grades may still be placed in hotels). For the first little while hmc transport is available to do the work run for you (although they are often late). Again, there is a shortage of temporary accommodation too so it is possible you may share the apartment especially if it isn't clear to hmc that you'll be travelling as a family. Confirm that you will need family accomodation (for x people) before you leave home. Hamad rent apartments and villas across the city so you could end up anywhere but our guys usually end up right next to the hospital I'm sure hr explained, you are also responsible for your families visa. If your medical, CID check, contract signing and immigration process ( in that order once you arrive) takes a while you may have to send them on visa runs. Housing and hr are completely seperate (like most departments!) so this is unlikely to affect tour recruitment. My collegue ended up sending his family on an extended holiday because he was unhappy with the accommodation and didn't want to keep doing visa runs ( and the kids were being home schooled so it was easier)

Once again many thanks patron this is very interesting to know. I wonder if that's part of the delay? Did you know where your colleague stayed and did he have his family with him while he had to wait for the villa? Sorry for more questions its just seems hard to get clear answers! edited by jimjam01 on 07/09/2012

Aha, the housing question! Hmc have a bit of a housing backlog and so this is a hot topic! At the grade you specify you can expect a villa. Once you have your rp housing will process you for permanent accommodation but this can take months due to a housing shortage. Families do get priority and hmc are trying to address the shortage by acquiring new properties. It is important that you only accept something that you are really happy with because it is near impossible to change once you're in somewhere( I think there's even a 4 year rule) I didn't move over with family but our last employee to join with family arrived in feb and moved into his villa in august( you may be more fortunate but it often helps to know things can take time) Just a heads up too, it is legal for wives to sposor husbands in Qatar HOWEVER hmc will not permit this. If you need to sponsor your husband I would make this very clear to hr and get something formal in writing. I'm sure you've read the school links, it is very hard to get school places without the children having rps so you may need to do some enquiring too (this i can't help you with!)

Many thanks for the advice Patron its very useful. I'm at the' waiting for visa' stage having passed all crendential and police checks etc so fingers crossed its soon. I'm from the UK so hopefully there will be no issues with getting a visa and hopefully every thing will go smoothly and I can get the children over to join me ASAP. I understand that I have to come over there first which isn't great but I would rather get everything set up first and try to make the transition less of a challenge for the children. Other than little niggles i'm really excited to start the new venture and now you have provided an insight into wage structure etc I feel much better. Could I possibly ask one more thing please? were you happy with the accomodation provided? I was wondering what type of accomodation a senior grade position (111-113) may get, (I also have two children and a DH joining me). Were you pleased with the accomodation provided and is there any specifc compounds that HMC house their staff?. Sorry to pester and if you are not keen on giving too much information over the forum i'm Happy to post my email address to chat privately. Again many thanks for your help. Its extrememley appreciated. Are you from the UK also and did you make the move with children?

As a veteran hmc employee I can share the following insites... Recruitment through hmc is slightly different than private companies and is notoriously long. You should receive an initial letter of offer (single page) stating your basic salary, grade, leave entitlement and allowances. Once you accept this the recruitment process begins. This process includes independent credentialing, completed by a separate department. The visa process does not begin until credentialing is completed. After credentialing your visa will be processed. If you hold dual nationality visa issue takes much longer. Once your visa is issued flights will follow. If you plan to bring your family you should be aware that hmc expect family members join you once your resident permit is finalised (can take 2 months). Before your rp is issued hmc have no requirement to provide you with family accommodation, if you require this make sure you arrange it through recruitment before you arrive. Hmc has strict employee pay scales that impact on other benefits such as holiday entitlement, annual ticketing and ( more importantly) housing. Each pay scale has an upper limit, it is unlikely that you will receive a payrise during your emloyment so try to be placed at the top of the scale ( there is also no fixed annual increment and very limited opportunity for promotion) Salary grades are confidential, I believe the top grade is 117( might help you to judge where you are). A doctor is around 111-113. Staff recruited for 'new ventures' often have higher grades than existing staff. Allowances are not paid whilst you are on leave, and leave is only accrued whilst you work( it is not an annual entitlement like in the uk) Schooling allowance begins when the child turns 5. I would advise you to keep in close contact with your recruitment person, emailing weekly for an update is fine. Hope that helps

I know this is quite an old post but i was wondering if Motheroffive or anybody else reading this post have any update/information regarding the visa process for HMC or have any experience in waiting for the visa process in general. Motheroffive/bribyer did you make it to Qatar yet and have you settled in well and everything gone to plan and smoothly? I'm in the same boat at the minute and just waiting for the visa to arrive to set the wheels in motion for the big move!! I keep getting told it will be very soon but very soon is taking quite a while to come (or perhaps i'm just really inpatient). Is this the norm for employment in Qatar?

Hi brbiyer I'm currently in the same situation where everything is so confusing. But tbh everything I have queried as been responded to and sorted out. What I got told is that they do have pay scales but they make up the difference with 'marketing allowance' which varies depending on how much they want you over there! I was told the same info about the 21000 for each child for school fees which for us still works out better than what we get in the uk (Which is zilch) but its the actual getting a place that worries me. I guess with regards to the wage its just a matter of working out what u earn now with current outgoings etc at home compared with the offer you get and your potential earnings. Looking at other offers around the world for doing my Job I feel the offer I received is more than fair. I'm also hoping to make the move at the end of this year so I hope u get the offer you want and keep us posted on your decision. Its a big brave step for us to take.

Hi Lizy, Thanks a million for that. They don't really seem to have transparent grades or pay scales which is quite worrying. Does your friend have any kids who would be going to school. I will be interested to know how much of the school fees they will be covering. Cheers Banu

Hi banu, My friend is been interviewed for an OT job there as well next week so i will let you know if he negotiated pay and benefits...I would imagine not as they should be following a pay scale according to your level of education and work experience etc.. But i will ask for you next week when he does the interview.

Hi All, I have been recruited by HMC. I am occupational Therapist. I know that they have done a big blitz of recruitment from Uk and Ireland and I would live to get in touch with someone, especially working mums, just for some support. I would also like to know if anyone negotiated their pay and benefits. Cheers Banu
