Hello Ladies
My doctor has prescribed me to get an HSG done to check for any blockage. From what I have read over the internet, it sounds very painful. I actually freak out during my normal vaginal examinations as well so I am getting very scared. Has any of you got this done here? Can you suggest a hospital/specialist for this? Also, what's the price like? Is it worth it or would it be better to directly go for an IUI? Suggestions please!!!

I know it's late, but thank you so much TC and Mahawish for your feedback. I got my HSG done yesterday at Medcare. They injected some sedative that almost put me to sleep so the procedure was Alhamdulilah not at all painful. You guys were absolutely right in saying that I should get it done before the IUI....now that I know that my tubes are doing fine I feel much more hopeful and positive :)

I had mine earlier this year at City Hospital, would definitely recommend them,... think it was 1350 AED and didn’t find it too bad. Some mild aching like period pain but I think everyone’s experience is different. Some people find it completely painless. Don’t get totally scared off by other people’s experiences on the internet. I wasn’t given any painkillers but did take some paracetamol beforehand. It may be worth checking with the hospital you choose what the procedure is on pain relief if you are worried as I’ve also had it done in the UK and wasn’t given any there either. Personally I didn’t feel I needed any but depends on the individual. Think it is worth doing the HSG before IUI as Mahawish says as tubes need to be open I think. Good luck.

I got this done from a laboratory on the Sharjah Cornice, which has a lot of specialist hospitals and labs....(the name escapes me, but will have a look once i'm back home) I had a lot of people tell me it is extremely painful, but overall while I found the experience to be uncomfortable, there wasn't much pain involved .....probably due to the pain killers. the doc. had told me they'd give me two injections on my sides, which I belive helped with the pain, and it was over before I knew it. The procedure was uncomfortable, but not painful. PErhaps you should ask your doctor, or the laboratory whether they will be giving you something for the pain ? Also if there is a blockage (cross my fingers hoping, there isnt') then the IUI is likely to be unsuccessfull, making it more frustrating in the end. Based on the fact that you are considering this, Im assuming this is probably one of the final tests you will be doing. A lot of people also state that flushing with the dye, actually helps clear all the tubes, even thought there may be no particular blockage and it may acutally prove beneficial doing an IUI or even trying naturallly in subsequent cycles. (My bf, conceived naturally immediately after her HSG and actually was quite happy to cancel her IUI appointment with Dr. Pankaj :)) All said and done once u've done the HSG, the IUI will be a piece of cake :)
