Travelled loads when my 2 were little, right from being babes in arms. They've slept in rented caravans, tents, old cottages, B&Bs, hotels old and new, using cots and toddler beds provided. Our DS even slept in the huge drawer of an old wardrobe when we were on hols in a converted stable attached to a farmhouse. We got our wires crossed and the owner thought we were bringing our travel cot which we decided against as we couldn't fit it into the boot of our car along with the folding pram. I'm with Flydiver re boosting kids immune systems and as my gran used to say, a bit of clean dirt is good for you LOL!!

I travel for a living, and have easily spent way more than 1000 nights in hotels, so I guess I am either immune or just block out the hygiene factor. Our little family thrives on the motto what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Our LO only sleeps in his pop up tent, so we've never had the need to use a travel cot or bassinet onboard. Must admit I don't fancy the thought of him being in either, especially knowing how the onboard ones are maintained. I'd still pick the bathtub, given the choice. Ive crashed in one a few times at uni, and found them to be a very comfy little spot for the night :) Can't even imagine 4 under 5. You're a super mum! Four is our goal, spread further apart though. I'm assuming by the time the third one comes along, I'll be too busy to indulge my inner travel bug, and we'll only get as far as camping in the backyard with a picnic.

I have 4 kids under 5 years of age and I know how hard it is to have little ones so I'm definitely not one to judge how mothers parent!!! I just myself find it gross sleeping in a bathroom. Maybe I'm just a clean freak. Even after a stay in a hotel I can't wait to get home and clean all our clothes and have a proper shower Lol. Especially if the hotel is older. And I take my own cot linen and playmats for the carpet. but that's just me!

Oh I totally get you with the whiplash LOL! My hubby at one point seriously thought DD had ADHD or something because he kept comparing her to all the other babies at the mall until someone reminded us that parents with really hyper babies probably avoid going to the mall and the ones you tend to see are the more chilled babies!! No, we just have one at the moment. I am however totally convinced that if we ever have another then he/she will be extremely chilled out and relaxed! Actually on the flip side, it is very rewarding having a curious baby : )

M my LOs the same, except we use the mission impossible theme music. I am always in awe of all the babies/toddlers in the mall or plane passed out in their buggies or mothers arms. Mine nearly gives himself whiplash looking around at everything that's going on.

Hi flydiver11 I used a combination of cuddling and controlled cry it out but not until DD hit 6 months. It took a total of 3 months to get her from only falling asleep when rocked (in our case bounced on the gym ball) to completely falling asleep on her own in her cot etc. I think I could have overcome the unwillingness to fall asleep in public with practice. I was going out with her a lot in the first three weeks of her life and she did sleep then but she got really sick after that and we virtually spent the next three to four months indoors without many outdoor trips which I think stopped her from learning to fall asleep. But then again it could just be that she is one of those really curious babies (we sing the Inspector Gadget theme song for her) because she is just so interested in everything and never stops looking around or interacting - she's been like that since birth. Other than when we have traveled overseas, I have never taken her out of the house during what would be a normal nap time for her. Hubby and I are too scared!!!!!

reynee11, your posts actually made me LOL. You remind me of me before my baby. "God, I can't believe mothers do this, did you see that woman give her child a ......?" It's funny how your perspective can change. I actually considered putting my LO to sleep in a bathtub once, just to get some sleep. I'm pretty sure it's easier to clean a bathtub or bathroom than a mattress or a travel cot. Ive watched many documentaries on what people do in hotel rooms, and what goes on in commercial kitchens, and a lot of the time the DNA testing of the public bathrooms were cleaner than the kitchens or cutlery in a restaurant. Any way, thanks for the giggle. Bit off track though..... By any chance did the other mums with the non public sleepers use self soothing or CIO methods and sleep routines?

My LO is the same, only wants to sleep in a quiet dark room never in public. We shared a room on holiday, put her in the crib watched a movie on the iPad under the covers and waited for her to nod off. After say 30 mins transferred her into her pram and covered it with a black out blind and off we went. Also if the time difference works in your favor then keep on same times ie we went to Singapore for Xmas and instead of going to bed at 7 pm she went at 11 pm and got up at 11 am instead of 7 am.

the bathroom is where people poo and wee LITERALLY!!! dont worry i feel gross staying in hotel rooms too for the fact that strangers have slept in there and i dont use the coffee and tea facilities because they proberly wash the untensils in the bathroom with the cloth they use to wipe the toilet ;) But something about the air in the bathroom isnt really appealing for me to sleep in :(

That makes me want to vomit edited by reynee11 on 22/06/2012 lol, You would sleep in a hotel bed that frankly, has probably had a very colourful history, they'd be sleeping in a portacot that countless babies have probably pooed, weed and vomitted in, crawling on a floor that thousands of people have walked on and you'd be worried about their cot being in a room that has a toilet, (obviously not being used while they are in there and its the same room you gave them their bath in and brushed their teeth in). You'd also fill the kettle and wash your cups/glasses in that room. sure if you have the budget for two rooms thats a much better option... <em>edited by kiwispiers on 22/06/2012</em>

Sleeping in the bathroom is disgusting!!! I would get a 1 bedroom suite if you're that worried. Would be cheaper then 2 rooms. So baby can sleep in the room during the day and night while u hang in the lounge area?!? Definitely not in the bathroom next to a toilet!!! In hotels we have put the porta-cot in the bathroom for day naps or if going with friends have booked adjoining rooms so that we can hang out in their room at night with the baby monitor on (otherwise start the night with the porta-cot in the bathroom and when you want to go to sleep for the night move it back out to the main room). With family you just sneak in and go to bed after your baby is asleep.

Hi flydiver11 - my 1 year old sleeps on her own in her own room and refuses to sleep in public including in the car or in the stroller. She slept in my arms during a 15 hour flight to Sydney but she cried herself to sleep even then. The only thing that has worked for us is our BabyBjorn carrier but now that she is 12kg+, don't think that is possible anymore. We have holidays planned too and we have booked a serviced apartment as opposed to a hotel room as it gives us more space. We have made sure they supply a cot for DD to sleep in. Friends who have stayed in one-room hotel rooms with their LOs have told me it was quite restrictive and they basically sat there quietly reading books, watching movies on laptops with headphones etc. Ordering room service was the main issue ... I think some hotels let you book adjoining rooms at a lesser rate if you ask.?
