I know there are different schools of thought regarding sleeping through the night. I believe that it is not abnormal for babies to not sleep through the night
From what I have read it doesn't have much to do with what you feed them before bed but with their maturity regarding sleep. Some babies are able to sleep longer stretches and some are not yet. Everybody actually has phases at night where they sleep very lightly and might even wake for brief moments, just to settle back into sleep again. Babies might need assurance and comfort to settle back in, sometimes all they need is a hand patting their back or someone giving back their binky , or even a little drink at the breast which might not have to do much with hunger but with comfort.
I don't think now is the time for disciplining but for comforting. I know there are plenty that swear by some form of sleep training or the other, and if that works for them then that is fine. That never worked for my family. But eventually all kids will sleep through the night. My opinion is that you want your baby to learn to associate sleeping with something pleasant and nice and not with being left alone to cry and being shouted at for wanting to be comforted. They're only babies for a short time, try to cherrish those moments they don't last for ever. At 10 months there is a lot going on developmentally with your baby that keeps your baby's brain busy even at night. And also seperation anxiety kicks in at around that time. But please don't worry too much, a lot of parents have been there where they wonder if thir child will ever sleep and in they end all of them do, and then you have a hard time to drag them out of bed to get ready for school.
could be the development leap he's just had in learning to walk, once they master sleeping through it doesn't always mean that they'll do it every night for ever!
My baby has always waken up at night but a few weeks ago stopped as I started to give him more food and cereal before sleeping (he would sleep 8 pm till 5 am), but last week he started to walk and is now waking up 2-3 times at night, and I have to nurse him to get him back to sleep. He goes to sleep at 8 pm and yesterday woke up at 11 pm, I tried to ignore him and told him to sleep many times raising my voice as I was very upset and let him cry but he cried so loud that I ended up picking him, he kept crying so much even after that ( I guess he was very upset because I shouted at him), I breastfed him and finally got back to sleep. Two nights ago, he woke up at 2 am, and couldnt get back to sleep till 3 am. He is sleeping 2-3 hours during the day. I dont know what to do?. I dont know if he is not getting enough food during the day?, how do I know?. All the kids I know at this age sleep thru the night, I work and I need to be focused at work. What could be the cause?
