legs pain is the worst thing in pregnancy!! i suffered whole time and is still suffering after 5 months. but after few tests it came out that my body isn't making vit D. so i am taking shots every 3 months and so far my vit D levels have increased from 6 to 38 (it should be 250 for vit d3) it got so worse that my dh kept a maid just to massage my legs :) poor him has to do it all the time once he use to come home. even when i went to home country for a month all the time one person or the other kept on massaging my legs and still i couldn't sleep in the night when the pain is at the max. mostly my bones use to pain and are still painful rather then the muscular pain. as for the exercises i was advised not to do because of the pain. so i walked but that too like 5 min walking 10 min sitting.
wish my bones would have stretched too....might have increased from 5'3" :D

Oh I feel your pain as I suffered significant joint pains and actually grew about 2 to 3cm taller whilst I was pregnant - really weird but the doc said it was a case of bones stretching etc. I found pregnancy Pilates really helpful, I found a video online and did it every second night. I developed cankles - you know where you can't tell the difference between you calves and ankles, my feet would not fit into my flip flops. The good news is that it all came off about 3 weeks after delivery but my bones were stretched and I sustained a foot fracture 6 weeks after delivery just from walking. The only thing that helped in the office was a box under my desk to rest my legs and regular movement.
Ask your doc if you can take calcium supplements such as the tablets that fizz in water, I had to take these post delivery to help with the bones aching and wonder if it could help during pregnancy?
Thanks ladies for your comments on this.
Its really weird - the joint pain has been coming on for some weeks now but seems to be getting quite bad in the last few days. My Dr has done a test to see if it is a lack of vitamin D so am waiting for those results to come back.
But the swollen feet and ankles has literally hit in the past couple of days. I didnt have it at all up to now! And last night it was really bad!
Like you TDB, Im drinking in the region of about 2.5 - 3 litres of water a day plus milk, herbal teas etc but it doesnt seem to be making any difference. Im just thinking, if its like this at 29 weeks, WHAT will I be like in 8 - 10 weeks time! I'll be like a little Ooompa Loompa by then!!!
Hilsbils, I would mention the groin pain to your Dr the next time you go to see her. This kicked in for me about 1 month ago and it really hit one day after I had been exercising (just walking on treatmill) but it was chronic! It wasnt so much pain but severe aching which subsided after a couple of days of as much rest as possible. I mentioned it to my Dr who sent me to a really good physio and she explained it was the start of SPD. She has given me exercises to try which has helped and although it wont go away completely, it has helped! But if you are starting to suffer from this now, please mention it to your Dr as it may get worse and it can be very unpleasant (I dont mean to scare you at all but the physio said its DEF better to get it treated early rather than waiting for it to get too bad).
Thanks ladies for the tips and hope you are all well!
Have you tried to put your feet on a little footstool or a cardboard box while sitting at your desk? This also elevates them. As for at night, I was once told by my dr to put something under the mattress at the footend of the bed to elevate the lower part of the mattress a little.it is absolutely normal to have to go all the time, the 3 litres and more of water you drink have to go somewhere after all. And the waking up at night to go to the bathroom helps you to get used to the broken sleep you experience once the baby is here and you have to get up at night as well
Ive had bad pain in hips, groin and pelvis and only 7.5 weeks along! I understand that the hormone relaxin is meant to soften our ligaments but usually only in the third trimester. My endocrinologist suggested adding rock salt to my diet (I never use salt) and I read on another fertility forum that we are often deficient in potassium. Apparently our daily recommended amount is very hard to achieve with a normal diet even if you have bananas and avos all day (the greatest source of potassium is apparently dried herbs like chervil and parsley) so I have chosen to start taking potassium supplements every day. It seems that even with a massive water intake I always feel dehydrated and dont run to loo as often as I should, so decided there was a problem with minerals and salt levels.
To avoid excess water retention and thus swolen feet you need to drink a lot of water. The more you drink the less swollen you will be. A lot of women don't drink enough water especially during pregnancy.Try to elevate your feet as often as possible. Try to keep active, walking is a good way to stay active now with the weather getting a bit better in the mornings and evenings. Talk to your doctor about support stockings, pregnancy puts a lot of strain on your circulation support stockings can help to keep up the pressure in your leg veins and so help them move your blood back to the heart. Another good thing would be to shower your legs alternating warm and (ice-)cold, but I guess it is yet impossible to get icecold water from the tap in september in UAE.
Avoid prolonged sitting and standing.
I tried most of the above with my second baby and I hardy had any swelling , I was still wearing my rings on my delivery day, with my first , were I had terrible water retention I had to take them of at around 16 weeks.
I can't help with the finger and joint pain though. Sorry
Hello,
I am 28 weeks pregnant and the sypmtoms have really started to kick in, in the last couple of weeks.
Can anyone recommend action / natural remedies for swollen feet and ankles?
Also, severe wrist, thumb and finger joint pain? I dont think its carpal tunnel as I have no tingliness or numbness - just pain.
Any suggestions gratefully welcomed!
TIA!
