Feel your pain. We co-sleep with ours. We have two infants (pretty close in age). I'm hoping at some point they'll sleep together in the same room or in one big bed. Have you tried getting the little one to sleep with another sibling? Maybe it's just insecurity about being alone. However...one of ours likes to cry occasionally in the middle of the night for NO reason! Drives us insane! We thought co-sleeping with curb that. Seems like co-sleeping or not a lot of kids go through this phase. Best of luck!
Well your thread has inspired me, I have put the cotbed mattress on the floor, so lets see what happens !!!
Good luck and fingers crossed for a nights sleep for us all ;-)
Please report back in the morning !!!
Thanks ladies, it's comforting to know we're not alone!
We've tried allowing DD to sleep in our bed & lifting her back to her own bed once she's asleep... it doesn't work for us :( she wakes up almost straight away...
Last night my hubby suggested opening out the sofa bed in our room & letting DD sleep on there when she comes in... at least we'll have our bed to ourselves! We'll see, may try that...
I feel your pain!!! My 4 year DD started waking up in the night last February and I have not found a way to stop it, I have tried everything. I'm exhausted, I have a 2 1/2 year old DS who thankfully sleeps so I only have to deal with 1. I have resigned myself that it will just stop at some point, she is scared and that's why she wakes and crys, I think over the last 9 months she has slept through about 5 times and that's it. It's tough as you feel like a zombie throughout the day, and totally loose your sense of humour and ability to deal with things rationally. I'm considering puting her old cot mattress on the floor in the hope she will come in and sleep next to me so at least some nights we can sleep with out being kicked and punched or woken 4 times!!!
Sorry not much help but hopefully comforting in that you are not alone !!
Good luck
I empathise. Second DS who is 4 and half has been coming into our bed almost every night since he was able to and kicking, grinding teeth, sleeping on our heads, shouting out - the lot. Yes we have tried all the techniques to stop this. None have worked and we have reached the point where we have resigned ourselves to this until he grows out of it. We are both often exhausted and the cumulative effect of this is debilitating. DH often leaves when DS arrives and both our sleeps are disturbed as is our closeness. Thankfully we have got over the going to bed traumas. Not much help for you but just an understanding ear. Hope things improve soon.
I have similar issues with my 2 DD's ( age 5 & 3 yrs). I now read them a story in my bed, let them fall asleep then DH carries them to their own beds once fully asleep. They don't even know they are in their own beds and continue sleeping. It's just too hard trying to make them go to sleep in their own beds, I usually only do that when I am really irritated with them & there is lots of tears to go with it. So this works well and peacefully for us.
My youngest of 4 has never been great at staying in her own bed, but this is the worst she has ever been. We stayed in the UK for 2 months over the summer, and were co-sleeping as we were staying with relatives. Since being back, her night habits have deteriorated and I'm struggling :(
She goes to bed at 7pm and takes a dummy with her. She happily goes to sleep in her own bed, but almost as soon as she's fallen asleep, she keeps getting up, again and again and again, crying & getting out of bed. I have to return her to her bed and say "night night". She'll fall asleep, but again, sometimes as soon as 10 minutes later she's up again. Just as an example, this evening, she has been up 4 times within an hour of going to bed.
I have to be up with my other 3 children in the morning to get them organised & drop them off at school, and I usually give in & eventually allow my youngest to come into our bed. She then sleeps fine. But I don't. She literally sleeps on my head so I can barely move.
Any advice?? How can I get her to stay in her own bed?? If I try control crying etc, I'll disturb my other children who have to get up early for school...
I'm just soooo tired now. And fed up... having DD in our bed every night is also taking it's toll on my relationship with my husband :(
