Anyone had experience with Dr. Purnima Deb re delivery. I would live to hear your delivery stories.

I have no problem with her but suddenly I get confused if I need to stick with her or change doctor. Maybe because of the fear as first time mom.

Hello ladies I changed my doctor and I can delivery either city hospital or intenational Modern hospital. My previous dr. Purnima is nice, but I find dr. Nirmala nicer :) so, will stick with her till delivery :) With regards to mternity ward/services? Which is better? City or IMH? Do they all private rooms? Or depends on the room availability? I heard that IMH have two rooms each (one for the mother and one for the guess) not sure though if this is across all maternity ward. We will have a tour next Saturday but would appreciate if you can share your experiences Thanks

Good advice from your midwife Swissroll. Hassli, you will be the hero in your birth and anyone who doesn't make you feel confident and strong before, during or after that has no place in your life. Change. Find someone who HELPS you. Doctors are really only there to inform you, encourage you and be there if something goes wrong. If that happens, you want someone you have confidence in.

I moved to Dubai in week 32, was very happy to finally go to my first appointment with the famous Dr, after waiting for ages around nurses who lacked any respect and smile The dr wasn't any better. I had 6-7 appointments and was literally in tears after each one, very stupid comments, no eye contact and when it happened it lacked the caring and assuring look. Took my husband to my last appointment and finally he believed me after seeing how rude and impolite she was with both of us. On the delivery night after hinting to the midwife that im dreading the time when that Dr is going to be around, the nice midwife brought to our attention that it's our right to change the Dr and have another one for the delivery. Few hours later the new dr came and i had a very pleasant experience with her. That midwife said that you're going to talk about the delivery for tens if years to come, so better to have a Dr you get on well with. It's your call in the end to change your dr or not, but remember that it will never be late to do it. All the best xxx <em>edited by Swissroll on 26/10/2012</em>

There's no harm with you meeting with another one from the same or a different hospital if you can find one you like the sound of. If you have strong feelings that you should change then do it. I did at around the 36 week mark when my OBGYN made a stupid comment and took the mickey out of me and I hated him there and then and wanted to change. I didn't get the birth I wanted in the end and didn't have any confidence in him at all. Looking back I wish I had changed the first time he laughed 'at' me which was at 30 weeks!! Next time (if there is a next time) I would go with my gut feeling a bit more. Good luck with whatever you decide x

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a particular reason to change and because this is my first time, I don't have a sort of benchmark to compare to. All my follow up are straightforward, max. 15 minutes as that's the city hospital sort of rule for all there follow ups. Blood pressure and height will be taken by the nurse. Then I will be asked to submit a urine sample. (They never come back to me with the result of any of my urine as all are within normal) Then they will ask us to wait for a while then we will be greet by the doctor as soon as we entered the room. My doctor will asked me if everything is ok with me and I will say yes.. Or I will tell her some of my issues like dizziness etc etc. my Oby will always says those are normal and part of pregnancy. She never tell me what to expect for the coming weeks. Then after a small chat, she will ask me to lie down and check the heartbeat, the fundal height and she will always tells me all are normal. She never see what's inside after my anomaly scan as she said that there is no need for that anyhow I will have my final scan (growth scan) which will give her all the measurement required for her to assess if I will be a normal deliver or c-section. Then she will update the system and that's it's.. Bye bye time. That's pretty much what happen with my check up and the nurse told me that this is the standard ways. So, I really don't have any particular reason to change.. It's just a feeling of confusion. If we are really receiving the proper ante natal care...but maybe this is rally what ante natal in uae. Still can't decide. Wanted to shift to other doctors recommended by the other ladies but its too late, they are already book till next month too. I will just pray all will be fine and my baby boy will be in good health and my delivery is not traumatic :) Thanks ladies

I have never delivered with the same doctor that saw me throughout my pregnancies. There was no particular reason for this other than that they weren't on duty when the time came. And no problem with that. My point is, that if you are not satisfied with your doctor there is no reason not to change doctors. If it is within the same hospital or clinic all the info will be in your file, and if you want to switch hospitals then request to take your file with you.
