Toddler Beds at what age

My LO is 2, and still sleeps in a crib. He did try to climb out once and fell, (on his bum and was not hurt) and never ever tried it again. I'll be going back home for the summer and thought to transition him into a toddler bed then- but I just don't trust that he'll actually stay put in bed. I'm just trying to get ideas on when most of you put your lo's in toddler beds and what sort of 'signs' you looked for to know that they were ready.
