Just came across some horrible cockroaches... Yuck!!
Can I have the house exterminated while being 7 months pregnant? Worried it might harm the baby, but the thought of those critters makes me freak out.
And what about my dog, would it harm him?

Honestly I would not get the exterminators in. The chemicals are nasty and of course the guys from the company will tell you it's fine but have they done any research on the effects of these chemicals on pregnant women? They use chemicals here that are banned throughout the rest of the world. I do recommend Boric Acid Powder (do a search on here). I bought some from Boots a few months ago. It's much less toxic to humans but make sure your dog doesn;t lick it up. We had a horrible cockroach infestation and it cleared up just with this within a week. Just to be safe get your husband to do it and don't touch it yourself. Why risk it?

Thanks for the replies! Think I will ask a friend if the dog can play in their garden for the day and make sure that I'm away too. I was getting really worried and disgusted about the thought of those horrible cockroaches crawling all over my baby .... brain has clearly gone into pregnancy overdrive ;)

I'm not a medical / extermination professional, but I had them in when 3 months pregnant and was told to leave the house (with pets) for two hours and then just give it a goood open window airing. We're all still fine and the house is still free from ants. I am thinking of getting them in again just before baby comes because I would rather do it before than when baby is here. But as tamieg says, if you are really worried, perhaps you could take yourself away for a night.
