oh my old thread is alive again :) Ds i completely fine now...he is 15 months old and has overcome his fear of grass,toys,pressure cooker,etc. now he is always curious and keep watching intently what i am doing in the kitchen. so i always work as i am cooking for some cookery show :D @pickaboo : he started saying "mama" when he was 4.5 months old. now he only says "daddy" and mummy only when i am not listening or if he is in pain (teething or gas). he tries to talk and sometimes says catch,dirty,touch. That's his vocabulary so far and he has recently started calling his grandmother on phone. as for the attention span its very less.i can't make him sit still for more then 5 minutes. he is not interested in stories but still i dutifully read him daily.he understands whatever i am saying but as normal for the babies...choose to ignore if my sentence has "no" in it :D but he do listen if i explain why no? like other day he was pressing dispenser's tap again and again making water spill. then i explained to him we only open it when there is a glass or bottle. so after few minutes he brought his bowl, put it there and then opened the tap! Now what? :)

Could just be a phase. Babies do suddenly become more aware of themselves and their surroundings and how important mummy is. A 6 month old baby, who was happy to be passed round relatives and friends can suddenly at 9/10 months scream blue murder if mum as much as turns her back! My DS was like this from about 10 months and like your LO, suddenly hated grass, sand and even our sheepskin rug which he happily rolled about on when he was younger!! I couldn't go to the loo without him bawling his head off! My DD also suddenly took a dislike to my DH which hurt him deeply. She was speaking quite fluently at about 18 months and used to say "I don't like a black and brown daddy"!!!! DH is very swarthy skinned with dark brown eyes and back then had jet black hair! If he took his glasses off she went nuts!! Fortunately she outgrew this phase and I'm sure that your wee one will too. :)

Hello I am a speech therapist and would like to know how is his speech and language development going on? He is one year old; so has he started using any real words like calling you 'mama' or is he using elaborate vocalisations presently? Also, how is his attention span? Does he pay attention to you when you talk to him or you feel that he is looking at you but does not seem to follow what you want from him? And how is his understanding?

Hi angel joy i am by no means an expert but my son is 11 months old and has also started to become a little clingy and more aware of things. from things i have read this seems like quite normal behavoir at this age, i would just keep encouraging him and taking him to the beach. their little ears are sensitive so may the sounds seem much louder than they are and although it never bothered him before, it is im sure just a stage.

Suddenly my 1 year old has become afraid of water,grass,clattering sound, some of his toys,etc.. last month i noticed when we went to beach he was very clingy to me and sat on me only. he was afraid of the sand and was screaming if we took him near water. so i just sat with him on my lap. after 1 hr or so he tentatively touched the sand, i encouraged him so he just kept on touching with his 2 little fingers but would not sit. finally he went to water too but holding tight onto me so i just went few steps in and took him out. we tried to take him again after 15 days but it was same. he used to love beach before. didn't wanted to come out of water at all and we had to take him home forcefully but now its the opposite. i thought this might be due to a long gap (1 month almost) for the visit to the beach. this is one thing..he sits by me and play in the kitchen while i cook. from past few days he holds onto my leg all the time and even if he sits and play if a utensil makes sound he comes running to me and hold me tightly...same happens with his toys that have sound. i am not able to understand this sudden behavioral change. he has started showing tantrums also at the same time. if i say "no" to anything it will be either rolling on the floor or biting me... physical distraction works with him for few minutes only then he is back at the same work. i am worried about his sudden fears. i don't want to aggravate them just tackle them in their own time.
