Hi all, I've just taken a test and its come back positive :)

I'm very excited but a bit nervous and worried though as I've been eating things like runny eggs and slightly underdone steak without realizing...my cycle has been irregular for the last 6 months so I was doing all this without realizing the potential harm it could have. It's only now that I was reading about it.
I think I'm into my 7th week but am new to Dubai so do not know what the process is for getting check ups etc.
Could someone advise on where I could go to get checked and what the rough costs are. Are there still packages that I can purchase that would help for check ups and delivery etc?

Would love any advice

TIA
Xx

I had an appointment at 7 weeks to confirm the pregnancy by ultrasound, then they brought me in at 10 weeks to do another ultrasound and the full bloodwork, and I am going in this upcoming weekend at 12 weeks for the NT scan. We are paying out of pocket, so I've started asking the doctor if we can't just wait and combine a couple appointments in order to save the extra consultation fee each time. I've also heard that you should do the NT scan/ Down syndrome screening between 12 and 14 weeks. Maybe see if you can postpone your appointment with Dr. Sharda until you are 12 weeks? I've been feeling totally at the whim of the doctors since this is my first time, but I'm starting to do my own research and acting as my own advocate. Good luck!

As a quick first appointment, we went to see Dr Sharda at Medcare hospital in Safa Park. Although I was happy with her, she has booked another appointment just 2 weeks later...is this normal? The doc said that she needs to do a Downs screening before 12 weeks (at the appointment, I'll only be 10weeks and 6days) so I feel I may be a little early for it. Everywhere I've read said that the screening should be between 12 and 14 weeks so I'm a bit confused at the moment. How regularly are your appointments and have you discussed the screening? Confused!

The nausea and other first trimester woes seem to be on their way out as of this weekend, yahoo! But yes, brushing teeth seems to be the worst! This is our first and we are both over the moon. Went for our second appointment with Dr. Jozsa yesterday. It is absolutely amazing how much the little one has grown in just 3 weeks. It went from looking like a little slug to a real baby who was moving around and waving his/her arms! I am finally starting to feel like something's really going on in there. And my husband is such a proud papa, he was showing all the midwives the scan pictures on our way out. Have you found a doctor yet? (And no pressure on the buying stuff yet. We ended up getting a second hand carseat and stroller/pram combo from a name brand for really cheap, as well as the baby carrier and the baby bathtub from the same seller. I'm trying to take it easy for a while about buying things, but those deals were too hot to pass up!)

Oh wow! I'm probably around the same date...just need to get confirmation (forgot to ask the gyno in all the excitement!) Congratulations to you too!!!!!! This is our first..,how about for you? Thanks for the tip re:classifieds...I'll def start keeping a look out. Don't actually know where to start with the shopping...hehe! Haven't been suffering too much from nausea. It seems to crop up only when I'm brushing my teeth. Hope yours is getting better now

Yay! Congratulations! I'm 9 weeks too, so we must be due at almost exactly the same time (December 1st for us)! This is so exciting, is this your first?? From one newbie to another, I've been scouring the classifieds here for baby items. It seems like a lot of people are moving out of Dubai right now and are selling high quality items for cheap, cheap, cheap. If you don't mind used, it's definitely a good place to start. Hope you're feeling okay, I think my nausea is finally starting to go away.

First of all, congratulations! I did not have any maternity coverage through my health insurance, so I've been paying out of pocket too. There are quite a few clinics around town that will see you to confirm your pregnancy even at this stage. There are the Mediclinics that are scattered everywhere and they have pretty reasonable prices (I think it was around 750 for the consultation and the blood test). I went to Health Bay Polyclinic to see Dr. Jozsa who is highly recommended on EW. He did the ultrasound at 7 weeks and even let us hear the heartbeat! I think that was around the same price for the consult as Mediclinic. All of the hospitals provide the antenatal and delivery packages, which you can find on their websites. I emailed a few clinics around Dubai to get pricing info and nearly all of them have the antenatal packages. The only one that didn't was Dr. Jozsa, but the receptionist emailed me a complete list of all charges associated with antenatal care. The total came out to be exactly what a lot of the other packages were, but you can elect out of certain procedures and testing to bring the price down. Most of the antenatal packages start at around 12 weeks into your pregnancy, so if you want a blood test or ultrasound confirmation sooner, you're looking at paying at least a little more out of pocket. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions! I'm only a couple weeks ahead of you, but I've done a LOT of EW and internet research! :)
