Im trying to decide whether to get myself an approved car seat and use it on board or just to check my exisiting one in with the luggage and have my 2 year old sit in her seat without it?

Im not sure if it would be more comfortable for her? I am going on a 14.5 hour flight from Abu Dhabi to the US then have a 2.5 hour wait and another connecting flight of 2 hours duration. I want to do what will be best for her to rest in but I also have visions of her not wanting to sit in it and us all crammed in with an unwanted car seat between us!

What would you advise? I'm really not sure whats for the best?

Also, I have a very comfortable Britax seat now but its not airline approved (its quite huge!) so I would need to get hold of a suitable one here - does anyone know offhand where to look ?

Thanks in advance

I have two CARES harnesses but have not found them great particularly not for todders. Firsty they don't fit properly on all airline seats. The slimmer shaped seats on smaller planes mean they slip down. You can't use them in business seats either. The harness itself does not have a strap between the legs and so a wriggly tot can get out fairly easily. Last trip ( DOH- MEL) I took a 15AED highchair harness and it worked better. I have never tried using a carseat but am really tempted this summer. My almost 2 yr old will have a seat and I am fairly confident he won't stay in it.

Has anyone used the CARES Toddler Aeroplane harness? I have been thinking about getting one instead of using a car seat as so much easter to travel with but maybe its not so good? My DD is only two, I wonder if she's too small for the harness?

Yes use the carseat, the difference is unimaginable!!! With the carseat they will sit for hours, sleep, eat, watch tv etc. you can fall asleep yourself or go to the toilet knowing they won't fall out of their seat. I have the cosco high back booster which I bought from baby shop. It's very light, quick to install and handy for use in taxis too.
