Will US $12,250 be enough to do all of this:

medical ante-natal care such as 2D ultrasound scans, tests and consultations
a normal delivery, including hospital charges, obstetricians’ and midwives’ fees
post-natal care required by the mother immediately following normal childbirth, such as stitches
routine care for the baby, for up to seven days following birth

Thanks Can I ask, do most people go and see a obgyn who is based inside a hospital? edited by pollydxb1 on 12/10/2014 I didn't. I chose an obgyn whose clinic was close to my home. You can rack up a fair few visits, especially in the final weeks and it's nice not to have to trek halfway across town, especially when you are humungous :) She delivers at a few hospitals, I went with the American Hospital as it had the best coverage for my insurance.

Polly just visit hospitals to get an idea of their packages, which excluding the birth itself, pretty much covers everything. I dont think I have seen packages more than 8k. For the birth, I would budget up to 30k, that should cover C-Section as well in the case of an emeregency if you are planning on normal birth. Good luck.

Good Luck polly! TBH, one of my deciding factors for choosing Latifa was how amazingly experienced and affordable their newborn care is. DS2 was re-admitted to hospital 7days after he was born due to a mysterious fever (we never did find out what caused it) from Latifa ER, and we were charged a token fee (less that Dhs 2k) for the 11 days he and I spent in the wards, mainly because he and I were still covered by our expat DHA health cards. The pediatric nurses in the ER and in the newborn care unit are soo incredibly gentle that I felt very comfortable with the care provided. Apparently Iranian is now cheaper than Latifa, but not knowing any "insiders" I haven't been brave enough to consider it as an option lol.

Thanks Both yeah a long road ahead but I hope 2015 will be my year - and want to know what I am covered for - especially medical insurance wise and to make sure NOW if I need to I will pay for extra cover. Daza that looks good, AH will probably be the choice with my external based obgyn who I have seen for years - and the costs are well in the covered - I will check with obgyn what her prenatal costs are. & thanks for the heads up, I guess it will all be a case of see how I go! Brilliant Ladies as per usual x

There are also the Government hospitals (Latifa, Al Baraha/Dubai) which are cheaper than private hospitals, and on the cheaper end of Private, the Iranian hospital is much cheaper than most. All of them have packages which include mostly everything you need, although some extra scans/tests can be done privately if you like. Good luck!

Those are exciting ducks pollydxb ;) Do you have a particular hospital in mind? Most have maternity package prices on their websites. For instance, the American Hospital has it here: http://www.ahdubai.com/dynamicdata/main.aspx I know you know this but I'll say it anyway, you do also have to have a contingency plan if things don't go to plan. I would be extremely hesitant to have a baby here without insurance or a big pot of cash that you are happy to spend. I'm just stressing this as I had three uneventful pregnancies and deliveries then a bad fall during my fourth pregnancy changed things totally. Our insurance didn't cover all the extra antenatal care needed (which was "only" 20k or so) but it would have covered a premature delivery which we were told was very likely. In the end my baby went to term but knowing the cost (which would have been in the hundreds of thousands) was going to be covered was one less stress to deal with.
