My husband will start his new job at the beginning of September. I am just curious if it is okay for me to travel with him and enter UAE on a visitor or tourist visa? Once my husband has his residency visa he will sponsor me. We are coming from the USA.

I know we will have to have the marriage certificate attested. Is this something we do here in the USA and by who or is something we do in Abu Dhabi?

In addition I am hopeful that I may myself start a job as a teacher shortly after we arrive as a local hire. Will this complicate matters?

I only had to do one visa run, as our marriage cert was packed in storage. its a simple procedure to gain your residency, once hubby has his.

I came in on a tourist visa and then was sponsored by my husband. This happened very quickly and I have never had to do a visa run! Good luck to you I this regard. I am teaching and yes, as a local hire I have fewer benefits.

You need to take your marriage certificate to the UAE embassy of your country to get it authenticated. After that, it need to be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here in Abu Dhabi

Yes you can enter and also do monthly visa runs to the next states before your visa gets sorted out. Good luck with the move :-)

If you have a US passport yes you can come in on a visit visa then go onto your Husbands visa You need to get your marriage certificate attested and translated I beleive in the country that you married in, once done you also get it done at the UAE embassy here. Your Husbands company PRO may be assist for the UAE attestation part Most schools prefer candidates who are their Husbands visa however local hire can mean a smaller salary and less benefits than an expat hire

I assume that it is the same for you as Brits. We just come in on a tourist visa and then spouse applies for residency visa. If this takes a lengthy period of time then we do visa runs. Regarding teaching...ensure you have your degrees and diplomas attested BEFORE you seek employment. Best to get this done in USA. You will require transcripts as well as the actual degrees attested. In uk, you can either do this yourself or pay an agency. They have to go to ,I think, three different embassies. Marriage certificate is easier to attest via UK so I imagine easier via USA. If you have kids, you need to attest their birth certificates. If you call whichever school you are interested in working for they should be able to give you contact details for agencies who can attest documents.
