Etisalat - tv package nonsense!

Hi ladies

Can someone please help me re our tv package deal?

When we went to Etisalat, we were told that there were three levels of to packages. A basic pack, a middle pack and an upper pack. The middle pack I think was called the family entertainment pack. We were advised that this included everything except the sports channels, which suited us.

Now, having signed up, the tv package is dire! We have one, possibly two, OSN movie channels, a BBC channel and itv channel (both churning out old tv), TLC, Cartoon Network and BBC news. There are a couple of other channels but they're not 'featured channels'. All the other channels are Arabic/Indian. Every time we select a channel, it says we are not subscribed to that channel. We have called Etisalat who are now going on about a gold level, platinum level and a few other levels etc?!? We can't even get Disney channel nor sky news on the package we have so have literally signed up for BBC news and Cartoon Network! This costs more that sky tv in the uk alone!

Had anyone else had this problem? In the Etisalat store we were even given a pamphlet showing three levels of package so I'm completely fed up and confused! I was expecting all the movie channels and basically have nothing to watch!

Thank you.

We got the TV box from facebook, it's got all the channels on and it was something like 900 AED but then no more monthly fees

Thanks, I'll ask at the counter. I don't watch it to be honest - complete waste of money. Thank goodness for Netflix! Thank you all for your input ☺️

They will give you a detailed channel list, if you ask. Just go to their counter at the mall. This is what I do before I order packages. We paid 99aed per month for family tier (not openly advertised) and got loads of channels. Of course this was several years back.

We got one of those annoying pushy phone calls from Etisalat in October saying we HAD to upgrade with the tv, even though we had OSN and Bein sports and didn't want any more channels and I particularly didn't want any more boxes under the tv. No option, they were upgrading us and it was a great deal but we had no choice, we were being upgraded in our area regardless, we may as well have the box since it would be added to the package we had anyway. They came, fixed in the box and left. I immediately disconnected it and put it in a draw. Emphasis on we didn't want it. We knew in September that we would be leaving in February and when we came to close our Etisalat account, which we had had for 17 years, they CHARGED us for breaking the new 2 year contract for the tv channels. We didn't know we had a contract, we knew we were leaving BEFORE they gave us no option but to subscribe - why would we commit for a service we didn't want, knowing we would leave in 4 months? We registered a complaint but you know that that means absolutely nothing. We had to pay the fine, or not be able to close the account.

Don't get me started about OSN! We have had it for years and it has only been a case of them offering less and less, and charging more and more. The latest is their movie strategy. It is criminal. We have the top package and there used to be lots of new movies you could watch and record, or they were "On Demand" to watch at your leisure. Now they have gotten rid of "On Demand" movies, and guess what, you have to pay $5.00 to rent a decent movie just, like on iTunes. We tried it once and liked the fact you had 2 weeks to watch it, but they got rid of that now too so you only have 24 hours. So you are paying a ton of money a month, to be able to then pay to rent a movie.
