Main Roadworks in Dubai

In a city that's constantly developing, it's no wonder the road systems change frequently too... Keep up to date with what's going on!

The team here at ExpatWoman endeavour to try and keep you up to date about all of the main road changes and traffic announcements that will may effect your journey for a length of time.

Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Beach Road

If you know of any updates or changes that aren't mentioned below, please don't hesitate to contact [email protected] to let the team know!

Al Wasl and Jumeirah Beach Road
The Road and Transport Authority (RTA) have announced their plans to make both Jumeirah Beach Road (JBR) and Al Wasl Road one way streets, with Al Wasl Road traffic only heading towards Jebel Ali, and JBR only towards Satwa.

The aim of these plans is to improve traffic flow in the areas, making it more pedestrian-friendly and enhance things like foot traffic for businesses on both streets.

So with both sides of both roads being lined with both commercial and residential properties it will be interesting to see how access will be managed. Slip lanes both sides would run contrary to normal practice for a 4 lane highway, of slow to fast lanes. We'll watch with interest!

Dubai Canal Project
Major roadworks have developed over the course of the past year, and will continue until the completion of the highly anticipated Dubai Canal later in 2016. Traffic flow, although on a new route, has continued in a controlled manner and has handled the construction of additional bridges in the Downtown Dubai area, as well as the rerouting of Sheikh Zayed Road itself.

We have more information about the Dubai Canal Project overall here >>

Wafi Interchange
Part of RTA's strategy to improve and upgrade the main road networks of Dubai, the Wafi interchange is an important one as it links with main roads, and intersects with Sheikh Rashid Road and Oud Metha Road.

Once completed, the project aims to eliminate the overlapping traffic at the interchange, and ensure a smooth traffic flow in various directions.
