A tremor measuring 3 on the Richter scale was recorded in the middle of the Red Sea

| Last updated on 18 October 2017The Saudi Geological Survey reported that an earthquake measuring 3 on the Richter scale was recorded this morning October 18th, 2017 in the middle of the Red Sea. The tremor was at a depth of 20.88 km and was not felt in any of the coastal cities because of the weakness of the quake.
It is reported that the earthquake occurred 91 kilometres to the west of Jeddah city.

It came to light a few years ago that Saudi Arabia might be at risk of earthquakes caused by failed volcanic eruptions after a study was done by Saudi and US scientists. The study was published in Nature Geoscience and Nature.
