Saudi Arabia is a true desert region with a climate to match.

Most of the Kingdom experiences extreme heat during the day and an abrupt drop in temperatures in the night time. This is because the san does not retain the daytime heat well. The desert climate is also characterized by extremely low annual rainfall.

The average summer temperature hovers around 45°C but has been known to rise in to the 50°C range. The heat is intense for most of the daylight hours but tends to get cool quickly in the nigh time. Winter is surprisingly chilly but temperatures seldom drop to below 0°C.

The kingdom experiences high levels of humidity during the summer which makes being outdoors during the day almost unbearable, however almost no humidity is felt during the cooler winter months. Rainfall usually occurs during this time between October and March and the entire annual rainfall can be contained in a few thunderstorms.

While summer is extremely hot, the wintertime does have a certain chill factor. Be aware if you are coming to the Middle East for the first time that you will need some warm clothes here and it is not all heat and humidity year round.
