5 Clubs from Saudi Arabia will be Competing in the Arab Women Sports Tournament

Saudi is showing up in record numbers to this year’s Arab Women Sports Tournament

5 Clubs from Saudi Arabia will be Competing in the Arab Women Sports Tournament

2017 has been a significant year for Saudi Arabia with the amount of change that has taken place and they aren’t showing any signs of slowing down! The fourth edition of the Arab Women Sports Tournament is coming up again and Saudi will be represented in record numbers this year.

More focus has been placed on allowing women to play sports in Saudi Arabia last year. Women were allowed to enter sport stadiums for the first time in Saudi history and thereafter also encourage to start participating in different sports types with women’s sports clubs popping up all over.

Now this year, Saudi will have five clubs competing in the Arab Women Sports Tournament in five different events. The clubs that will be representing Saudi at this year’s tournament are:

  • Green Jeddah Club: Table tennis
  • Princess Nora University Club: Athletics
  • Jeddah United Club: Basketball
  • Saudi Arabian Fencing Federation Club: Fencing
  • Club yet to be announced: Karate

The Arab Women Sports Tournament was established in 1997 by the Sharjah Ladies Club and was intended to only have teams from the Arab Gulf. The demand got so big for other Arab countries to also participate in the event that Wife of His Highness Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohamed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs decided to create the “Arab Women Sports Tournament”.

The tournament will be held in Sharjah from February 2nd till February 12th, 2018. There are nine sporting events in which clubs can compete, namely: basketball, volleyball, table tennis, fencing, archery, shooting, athletics, show jumping, and karate.

The theme for this year’s event is “The World is Your Stadium”
