Wow didn't know this was opening, my kids are in a gems school I'm Dubai, why are the school fees a lot less in this gems? Hmmmm also there's a repton school Abu Dhabi opening in September as well. repton is due to open on reem for next academic year. so there will be the new gems school and repton school as 2 new schools that i am aware of. look at cambridge high school been in ab dabs for many a year, is a gems school and is much cheaper than other brit schools, always has been, but is a pretty good school, this other new one will be the same.

Is there any difference between Cambridge High School and Cambridge International School or it is just name changed? edited by smartlady on 10/01/2013 they are two different schools, in different areas, but both run by GEMS. international is a new one, and its obviously being built behind baniyas mall, hence why i havent seen it when i go there, cambridge high sch has been here years and is in mussafah, two different parts of town.

Sorry and... How do the moms find Sheikh Zayed Private Academy and Glenelg? :\: surely these are expensive. also sh private schools is predoimantly local, and glenelg is american system i think Unfortunately we do not have a choice in moving to AD so I have to make something work. The schools I mentioned below all had fees below 30 000 aed per year for my son's age group so I would appreciate any feedback on them. For that age and budget i would recommend Giggles. I dont have personal experience but a colleague of mine keeps talking about how they helped her 3 year old (who was not potty trained nor could speak) become an all new child. She says teachers and assistants are very attentive and patient. She highly recommends them. giggles is fine. but at that age you can find a place in a "big" sch and then dont need to move again.

chouefiat gets good results, because they test the kids every 3 weeks or so, its rote learning, the teachers dont necessairly have a degree in their subject, there is no parent/teacher communication. i would look at cambridge, or how about bisad? fees too high perhaps? belevedere is a brand new school, so dont know how its is really

Sorry Lulu12 for a late reply, changes in plan and we are still in UK, but my husband is in AD and has visited Glenelg, Belvedere, and Cambridge High School. We have decided to go for Belvedere as it was the closest to our needs. Glenelg was good too but it is American curriculum and they have no places till September. We have some friends with children in Choueifat, like busybee2 mentioned before they like to test children, from what I gather its all work and very strict, its a matter of personal choice but not for us. Cambridge High is a big and busy school, no complaints but again its full, no chance till sep.... Hope this helps.

uz2020, did you come right with a school yet? We are a European family having to relocate to AD from with in the UAE in March (what a bad time) and I have a son 3. He is attending the best private school in our town at the moment but the fees are not nearly as much as AD schools so I am stressing a lot about finding a good school with in our budget. We are looking at 25k max per year. We are getting some financial aid from work but it appears they are not in tune with the cost of schools in AD nor the availability. - long sad story - I was looking at Cambridge, Belvadere, AD Internasional, Giggles and even Choueifat (not liking that one much to begin with). Any feedback welcome. for that sort of money you will be looking at choueifat but unless your child is good at being tested and you as parents are fine with no communcation with teacher, and the teachers are not even qualified, its all rote learning. you will struggle as most schools will cost that nearly in one term.

Can't comment on the schools sorry, but I lived in a villa in MBZ for a year, if you are looking at that area, make certain you get a villa close to Mazyed Mall, otherwise it's very very isolated, property there is cheap, but you'll have no chance of getting a taxi or a takeaway if you move out too far from the mall. Small compounds there are pretty nice and more and more expats are moving in there.

Thanx, from what I gather Cambridge both mbz and baniyas are british curriculum schools, and thats what we are after. There are private schools here in UK which are run by Gems education and they have a good record, infact we have one locally, might ask them a few questions too. You are right we need to make enquiries locally, my husband will be going before us so all your advice will be very useful. We have emailed but no response and same with phone, cannot get through. Cannot thank you enough for your help. cambridge high school is british and yes its run by gems, but all the other new schools that are gems in abu dhabi are american curriculum, but obviously there doesnt appear to be much information re baniyas, but being in baniyas its a very local area. yes question the one near you try to find out information as there has been no mention at all here in the press in abu dhabi, as i would have thought we would hear something. best to try and get information face to face, good lesson for when you live in abu dhabi, phone doesnt work, sometimes you have to resort to "sitting down face to face".

gems is ok. but until you see how they are progressing with the building etc, have found that they have a keith miller who is the founding principal designate but dont know where it would be located in baniyas the only place that i would think would be right next door to the new mall, where there is new housing too. would need more information to go, perhaps send an email etc

thanx once again, a compound sounds better, specially in the beginning to make friends and get to know people. I was searching and came across Cambridge International School Baniyas (Gems), opening 2013, it was suppose to open this year but apparently some issue with buildings. Is there any news about that? and geographically I see Baniyas (the area not school) at the lower right of MBZ on google maps, have I got the right area? baniyas is not far from where i live, but its a little further along from mbz, like 5 mins drive. gems is an american school, but havent heard anything but then probably wouldnt too much as i am in british curriculum, there is a gems school in khalifa a which just opened last year and also an older one in town.

ok, do you have any idea about their waiting lists?? and also is MBZ, a nice area to live with young children? really appreciate your feedback. well the issue with mbz is its located right between the al ain road, and mussafah road, its right by mussafah residental and close to the industrial areas of mussafah and icad, but its a big area so you can be quite a way away. you would need to go and look. cant help specifically with waiting lists because they change you will have to ring up and speak with the school. a lot of places off island are either big stand alone villas or compounds, so they would be good for children.
