I am becoming increasingy worried about getting my son into sixth form over there. We have applied to both BSAK & Al Yasmina and, even though he is predicted B's in his gcse exams, BSAK have already turned him down. I am now getting really anxious as my husband has already started work in AD and the plan is that we will join him in August. However if son does not get a place I am frantic as to what to do. Has anyone else been in this position and if so did it all come right in the end.

what means "a selective school"?
Thanks!
brighton college is a private fee paying school back in uk, and its a selective school, so the kids need to take an entrance test in order to get in. in the uk there are state schools, which are not selective, there are grammar schools which are selective, so not everyone can get in.
Hi busybee2,
What kind of pressure do u mean at Brighton? Also didn't get the "independent school"! In Doha, independent schools r government schools for locals. Sorry for too many questions but its good to get as much feedback as possible.
Is Bisad a good school??
Regarding houses, ill wait to c which school then search for a compound in z same area.
ok in the uk brighton college is an independent school, it has an entrance test to get in. so in order to keep up the standards you will be subjected to more strigent pressure etc, compared to the other schools here that do not test you to get into the school. in uk there are state schools (free) and independant schools (fee paying). government schools are government schools which are for locals or expats if you can speak arabic. bisad is a good school, but its all relevant to what you want to pay, brighton college is the most expensive school in abu dhabi, has only just opened so has many teething probs, as with all new schools. there is another new school meant to be opening next year, in al reem called repton again another indpendent private school (expensive) and also one in baniyas Cambridge international (gems) not so expensive, but is in a local area.

Thanks ladies for your comments. Now which do u recommend Brighton or Bisad? I have fs1 and y4
it depends, if money is no object and that you have a child that doesnt mind the pressures of an independent school then BC over BISAD, but if you lived across the road from a school i would go there, it makes a lot of sense having a small commute, the traffic can be a nitemare.
Agree with busybee, it will depend on what you are offered and also where you live. Al Yas is also not for profit, like BSAK. Repton will also be opening next year, but only for younger year groups.
well al yasmina may be non profit, but its run by aldar companies so is not the same as bsak, which are run by themselves. yes the new repton on reem next yearhttp://www.reptondubai.org/en/about-repton/repton-abu-dhabi.html , also a new gems school, cambridge international school in baniyas http://www.gemscambridgeinternationalschool-abudhabi.com/home.php
you need to give us an idea of year groups, as with new schools they often only start off with the primary years etc and then build up a year each year so we cannot give you a proper picture without that information.

Ladies,
Could you please rank the following schools starting with the best.
Brighton college
British school al khubairat
British intl school abudhabi BISAD
Al raha
Alyasmina
Thanks a lot,
surely its down to your own opinion, they are all different and some are new some old but
british curriculum
bsak (this is the only non for profit school been around over 40 odd years, has brand new primary facilties, and excellent results)in town
al yasmina (this is part of the aldar brand, a lot of bsak teachers moved over when it opened 4 years or so ago, also the guy in charge at the time was ex-bsak headteacher, and the main principal until last year was an ex-senior bsak headteacher. a very good school too but is newish and still trying to catch up etc). out of town
bisad (this had problems i had heard in the senior years when it first opened up, changed its headteacher has improved, and i am hearing they are expanding their faciltities)out of town
brighton college (this is a brand new school, but its not the same as the others as its a selective school, its a brand name run by bloom properties)only just on island
ib
raha (this is the only one here) out of town
you may well have a list of which school you may think is best, but you need to check them all as what works for one child may not for another.
also its not so much that you have a choice of all those schools, it will usually be which will offer you places at them.
