WATCH: The Storm Took Over Abu Dhabi Yesterday With Heavy Rain And Lightning

Residents were advised to stay indoors and avoid driving in this weather condition

The weather forecast predicted some rain in the capital yesterday

But no one anticipated the level of rain and wind to hit the UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi, yesterday night.

The storm was gaining momentum during the night – heavy rainfall fell over the city, strong winds were blowing trees out of their place and debris was flying on the roads in Abu Dhabi.

Residents also posted videos of the rainfall, thunder and lightning in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

Abu Dhabi Police took to social media to warn the public against going out during these weather conditions.

The storm also managed to make its way to neighbouring emirates, including Dubai and Al Ain- Police in the UAE also sent a warning message to all residents in the country on Sunday, saying “Due to the bad weather, please stay indoors and do not go out.”

The worsened weather conditions also caused several events in the UAE to be cancelled and postponed till after the passing of the storm.

Dua Lipa was supposed to perform at the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi amid the one year anniversary of the museum’s opening in the capital.

However, attendees were advised to go back home and drive safe to ensure the safety of everyone in the country.

The National Centre of Meteorology in the UAE had warned the public of a storm making its way to the UAE on Sunday, particularly in the western coastal region.

Stating that waves are expected at two-metres in height and wind speeds up to 42 km/hr.
