A new system implemented on Ajman's roads will book vehicles with expired registrations from July 1st, 2018.
Meaning, if you're driving around in a vehicle with an expired registration licence in or near to Ajman, you'll risk being flagged by a new smart detection system, the police announced this week.
Smart cameras placed across the emirate of Ajman will scan through licence plates on the emirate's roads, and immediately flag expired ones to the police. After which, Ajman police will then seize the vehicle.
The new system will be activated on internal and external roads of Ajman, reports Khaleej Times. Colonel Khalid Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Deputy Director General of Police Operations told the news source, "the smart system will save the time of policemen and allow police patrols to focus on other issues to ensure safety in the emirate."
The system will come into force on July 1st, 2018.
And will book vehicles with expired registrations, giving their owners a fine of AED 500, four black points and seizing the vehicle for 7 days.
The smart cameras are part of the emirate's ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety by reducing the number of vehicles with expired licences on the roads of the emirate.
Implementing these new smart cameras is unsurprising, as the UAE as a whole continues to work towards improving safety for residents and visitors to the country. Other technologies we've seen implemented include surveillance cameras with facial recognition to be installed in Dubai, as well as surveillance cameras in Dubai's national taxis.
