Does anyone know if there will be an amnesty this year (usually around Ramadan), or know of somewhere/someone I could ask.

TIA

Sticky Wicket - there used to be an annual amnesty usually during Ramadan or over Eid for those who have found themselves trapped in the UAE and want to go home - for those whose passports who have been wrongly given to Immigration, for those who have lost their jobs and companies have closed down and their passports have disappeared, for those who entered in visit visas and have over stayed way beyond the expiry of their visas, etc. This used to mean 10s of 1000s wold queue for days outside their consulates and the authorities to get their "free pass" home, however, for most (if not all) that once they leave they will never be able to return to the UAE or other GCC countries. But at least they get home and start over again, and see their families. I recall that one of my previous companies used to buy large volumes of water and sandwiches etc and each day take supplies to those who had been queuing for days and hours in the heat of summer and the midday sun. If they left the queue they would lose their place. Lets hope we hear something soon. Smilies, have you heard in an official capacity ....? Thanks tons
