My wonderful brother went to Costco and bought me a Roomba before he came for a visit. It's our entire family's favorite Christmas present and we use it daily!

Now wish I had a cat, so I could make a video like this to share: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewdbilSWjaM

I'm over the moon and just had to share!!!! :)

The Scooba can work with the solution (didn't check the price), or vinegar (+water I presume) or pure water. It's quite tempting : Bright white tiles in a beach house with a zoo...I am spending my time mopping if I want it to look clean.... DH wanted it - but he thought it was able to vacuum and clean at the same time.. So for now, I'll go Rooommmmbaaa... Thanks Gleek for putting this thread :)

I can't look at this thread without thinking about the hilarious skit done on Saturday Night Live several years ago about the Womb-a. Think about it for a minute and I think you'll be able to figure out what it's designed to clean.;)

Read closely about the Scooba (the mopping Roomba) -- I believe they worked with Clorox to develop a "special" cleaning solution. It's supposed to provide optimal cleaning for this type of mopping...and I believe if you use anything else it voids any guarantee. And from what I remember (because I really wanted one), the solution is actually quite expensive. For now, the Roomba will do for us. In fact, DD won't stop asking me to turn it on...she sits on the 1 rug it can't climb over and watches it until it gets close enough to her...then she smacks it! She's like a kitten! :)

ok (I am a roomba expert now), I've discovered that there is a special pet serie of roomba with bigger bin and extra brushes....YES ! There is a God out there.... And there is even a Room that is mopping ! yeaaahh...heaven is not that far away... Not the same Robot though. For now, vacum is good enough... I think I'll try S&S as I'm not sure I can have the one I want here, and even the most expensive - appart of the professional, is half the price of here. Package is 16lb, that means 8kg (a little less)... But it's 2/3 weeks for the company to send + one week S&S = 1 month...

@Tiki Not sure...have to see how much it weighs to calculate S&S. I'll admit, it's pretty heavy...and one of the reasons my brother had to bring a 2nd suitcase (dedicated to Roomba + Christmas presents!). But the price here at Lakeland is insane, and had I known it was here, I still would have waited until family came (or we went to the US) before even thinking of buying it at that price. :(

I've sent an email to DH this morning just after reading your post....and he phoned me back this midday telling me to buy one if I wish....That was fast !!! We had one before, and except of the noise (we are always in the house), we really liked it. What would you recommend then ? On-line order or MCC ?

1) We plug it into a converter, works just fine 2) We have the 550 series (really, just because it was conveniently being sold at Costco) 3) The noise level is slightly less than the one we had several years ago in the US. It's about as much noise as our dish washer/laundry machine. We normally put it on and leave the house though, so it's not a concern for us at all. 4) I like this one as it actually "climbs" onto 2 of our 3 area rugs (one is too shaggy and tall). It cleans the rugs amazingly! The best part is that it just slides under all the couches, beds, TV stand, tables...no more bending over and moving furniture around to sweep the hard spots!

So its like a maid only with batteries? Better: - no food/clothing allowance - no fear of absconding and losing your deposit The only thing is that it gets more attention from my husband than I do...and I do worry he may either run off with her or one day bring her to bed. But I'll deal with this insecurity in lieu of not having to sweep crumbs/sand/dust off the floor all day! LOL !!!! Ok, you made my day, I'll ask my IT DH to get me a roomba too. He bought me one at the beginning - like years ago, and it was ok, also got stuck easily and was very noisy.... How is the noise level now ? And, btw, I can lend you a cat if you want....I've got 2 that I'm sure would love a ride....
