I find this very distressing. We were supposed to be there next month.

Quick google this am; Britons urged to leave Bahrain The British government has urged all UK nationals to leave Bahrain as soon as possible and promised to help evacuate people if necessary. The Foreign Office (FCO), which estimates there to be several thousand Britons in the protest-hit country, has updated its advice after the declaration of a three-month state of emergency in the Gulf kingdom. Travellers were told: "The overall level of the advice has changed; we advise against all travel to Bahrain; we recommend those who do not have a pressing reason to remain should leave by commercial means as soon as it is safe to do so." An FCO spokesman added: "We have comprehensive contingency plans with options for actively evacuating British nationals from Bahrain should this course of action become necessary." The FCO website advised that officials did not think it "safe to leave your homes or hotels tonight" adding that they would be reassessing the situation. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5gNRLKjM-kYLUBXZ-CKWGySXdefsA?docId=N0023911300245060059A

A friend just posted some pics on facebook - billowing black smoke in the background...not sure where it is thou... They are being told to stay at home. Think this is the best advise really, no need to leave but stay in your areas and don't try venturing to anywhere that you don't need to be.

Spoken with friends in Bahrain this morning . Her husband struggled to get back in the country yesturday to get to her and kids. They are now trying to leave by car , causeway blocked , airport not operating, car been banged by protestors as they drive, smoke everywhere. Doesn't sound like a good place to be at the moment and the only way out is over to saudi ! good luck to all

reports on twitter say phone lines have been cut, helicopters and tanks in lulu, gunshots, tear gas..happening now Am on the phone to a friend in bahrian now - so mobiles working... good to know..can you tell us what your friend says? She says some business open as normal, some people have left but thinks they are way overreacting. white folk aren't a target and she feels totally safe. Was up on her roof taking pics. Can hear the helicopters and gun fire in back ground. But she is staying in her area, not really going anywhere where there may be problems. Her OH has gone to work today.

Patchy mobile coverage - particularily Batelco. Just heard gunshot, not sure where from. We still have internet, thank goodness, and are keeping heads down. News is that they have gone in to Pearl roundabout so we will just have to wait and see what happens now. Going to be a horrid few days until this rule gets a handle on things. Mosques going crazy.

Is it really getting that serious? Just emailed my uncle telling him that he and his wife can come here if they need to but felt a little silly doing it! Better to be prepared I guess That's being really kind of you, why think you are being silly..... well...pretty sure they are fine and they have lived through a lot worse..just didn't want to over react

Going to be a tough few days I guess but we just batten down the hatches and get on with it. I would rather the weather improved though as it is a perfect opportunity to work on the tan, not having to be at work!
