They seem to be focusing on the picture quality at present - I went to the UK last week to renew mine as had less than 6 months left so DXB wouldn't issue my residency. Anyway when making appointment with Lonodn office on phone they stated repeatedly that I needed to ensure photos met their criteria and outlined them to me with instructions to read the notes carefully. The letter confirming the appointment again contained instructions on ensuring the photo was correctly done. Then, when handed over old PP and photos, my photo was closely examined and measured to ensure not only the right crown to chin length but that my eyes were at the right level! Can only supppose its do do with the new biometric PPs and the new technology at airport immigration.

Hi Tasha Not painless at all . . . it was a nightmare !! When the woman from the passport office eventually called I asked why they hadn't contacted us before she read the email out I had given her and she had read it out to me it was incorrect but I saw my husbands writing on the form and it was clearly legible !! So that really messed us around. When DH eventually went to germany they still weren't happy with the picture !! Anyway apparently it has to be between 28mm and 34mm between face and chin !! Hey CP Good gracious no 3 boys is enough for me thanks very much !!! This is passport for eldest nearly 11. LL <em>edited by Lakes Lucy on 02/02/2011</em>

My DH photo was 2mm too small from crown to chin so we had to send more photos, but we were informed by email with a link to the correct size of photo. So we sent it back via DHL, then 3 days later there was a section my DH had not filled in again we got an e-mail, he filled it in, I scanned it and emailed it off, few days later 2 new passports arrive (also sent DDs but had not problems with that). It took 11 days door to door even with the problems. We sent on the 4th Jan. Anyway there is a very good do and do not explanation for photos on the passport site, which I should have looked at before sending of any old picture. The service I believe is very good as long as there is no problems with the application that has been sent. So we just all need to check our applications with the apllication notes instead of (like me) thinking I dont need to read instructions. lol.

My Dh has asked me to post ( thats a first ) to warn everyone of the nightmare we have just had trying to get our Son's passport !! Sent it off end December they took our money on 5th Jan . . . . 30th Jan still no passport. 3 expensive calls ( they charge you to speak to them !! ) later and its processing Sir . . . . Call on 29th January from PO there is a problem Sir !! Now 10 days till DS goes on his school trip ! To cut a long story short Dh had to fly to Dusseldorf to get passport yesterday !! The problem . . . the picture . . . The man in the passport office in Dusseldorf told my DH that out of 45,000 applications 60% were rejected due to photo problems for children. So be warned !!
