Sorry everyone if this is a stupid question but it is something that really worries me. Are there any breakdown companies here (e.g RAC, AA etc) that we can be a member of incase our car breaks down ? I am terrified incase i breakdown on these busy busy roads because i wouldnt know wot to do. thanks anyone for any advice!

AA Auto Assist - 8004430. They send a guy on a motorbike with jump leads and basic equipment to see if he can get you going again. If not, he'll call a tow truck. I haven't used them personally but had them recommended by two separate people...

I know some credit cards with certain banks offer roadside recovery service as part of the package. If you have a credit card, check the benefits and see if thats included.

Check your insurance cover. I think most policies have a 24hr breakdown cover and will have a phone number you can call. I used ours the other month and they were pretty efficient and seemed concerned, they called a couple of times to make sure that I was ok while the driver was on his way. Luckily I was only at Motor City not on a busy road so I wasn't worried. HTH
