Hi ladies, have any of you had or know anyone who has had a civil ceremony in any of the hotels in Dubai. According to the British consulate website, it is not possible. I am hoping to get married around April and want a small civil ceremony with just family rather than a religious one. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think there's an old thread about this but I can't find it. I asked the consulate in Dubai a couple of years ago and they said no, but I guess it's always worth a trip to ask them. Good luck!

That's encouraging, I will arrange to go and speak to someone at the embassy and hope that they will agree. We couldn't spend three weeks in the UK necessary to post banns and it would just be a lot simpler to marry here, no offending anyone for not inviting them etc.,! Fingers crossed

You can married in the British Embassy depending on your circumstances. You need to explain to the them why you need to get married in this country (not able to be resident in the UK long enough for the reading of the banns) and why you are choosing a civil ceremony over a religious one (agnostics/atheists). The best thing is to go along and speak to them face-to-face. We got married under a Banyan tree in the grounds of the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi 2.5 years ago so it can definitely be done. HTH

oh well, looks like we will have to go elsewhere, was really hoping to do it here but from what you say and what I have researched it's just not possible for what I am looking for. Thanks for the reply.

as far as I know it is not possible to have civil ceremony, only in church, also some country's embassy (I think Germany) will marry their nationals in special cases, British embassy used to do it years ago but stopped more than 9+ years ago...we investigated 9 years ago but at the end we got married in Holy trinity church-Jebel Ali church did not exist then...also had a blessing afterwards at the hotel's beach but legal ceremony had to be in the church HTH
