Hi Mulan. I'm studying for my MA via distance learning. I'm a University of Leicester student. Have a look at the university's website and see if the degree you're interested in is available under the distance learning programme. All the best.

there are absolutely loads... quite a few of the main UK universities to Distance Learning - not Open University - where you do your degree/ MA/ whatever in real time, so it's quite fast-paced. You also need to be very disciplined and keep on top of things (which with the best will in the world, I haven't been, so I've got my submission next Monday and am busy procrastinating again! lol!). Be aware that it's by no means an easy option though - unlike those buy'em online degrees - because you are expected to lead your own studies (with guidance), source your own books and above all, keep the pace up.

Actually in many places, as people sometimes look at an online degree and think it lesser although this is not the case. spot on. I would even go further to say that this is a fantastic opportunity to get a qual from a well-recognised institution without having to move there... with live chat rooms, video links etc, you will not feel alone. good luck op, have a ball.

To check whether the course you are considering is accepted here, check this link: https://www.caa.ae/caa/DesktopModules/InstPrograms.aspx

If you want to use these quals in the UAE though when you finish, my advice would be to ensure that your quals do not indicate that you studied externally as the UAE gov't may not recognise these quals. Unless your studies have 30%' face-to-face' integrated into the delivery of the programme, the qual may not be validated and attested in the UAE... (although I am unsure how they even know...) Anyway, my point is that get your qual but just don't mention that it was external if you want to use it here. ;) edited by Kid Vs Kat on 05/01/2011 Thats correct, open universities australia do not put "online degree" or any mention of the degree coming from an online source, you get the degree directly from the university which is important if using the degree here. Actually in many places, as people sometimes look at an online degree and think it lesser although this is not the case.

Your options are endless. Distance education has come on leaps and bounds over the years. There are so many great providers. When you choose your discipline, you could contact the Association that represents it and ask for their advice on the best external provider. (eg if you are interested in Accountancy, contact the Association of Accountants.. s) If you want to use these quals in the UAE though when you finish, my advice would be to ensure that your quals do not indicate that you studied externally as the UAE gov't may not recognise these quals. Heriot-Watt University has a branch in Dubai Academic City & offers a lot of degrees in Business and others by distance learning too, where you can sit the exam in Dubai. My friend studies an MBA there partly on-campus and mainly by distance learning. Their website is www.hw.ac.uk

AdviceSeeker replied : www.open.edu.au thanks for the website i had a look but seems to be only for Canadians !! if there is any other inside UAE it will be better Its actually an Australian outfit, and anyone can study through it, you just have to pay higher fees as a non australian. They are accredited australian universities which gives you a proper degree as if you'd attended university. Not aware of any organizations as this in the UAE.

Open university which is uk based has courses that can be done in UAE. Log onto www.open.ac.uk It will then ask you to specify the country you are resident in. I am new to this myself and are considering doing some distance learning myself. Hope this helps thanks ill have a look tomorrow morning !!
