I tip 50 dhs a month + Christmas and Summer bonus. 45 dhs an hour is a bit high, saying that, I pay 35 dhs an hour and my maid is overworked, scheduled 9 h a day, 6 days a week. If the company that charges 45 dhs per hour is more ethical I would rather use them.

You might be paying 45 as it includes cleaning products and material (vacuum, mop, bucket..) Without cleaning material they all range between 30 and 35. If she is good and clean and thourough when doing her job you should tip her 20-30. These poor ladies have a salary of not more then 1500 on average when they work for agencies... I use kingstyle cleaners they are all very good and always on time if not early!

Same. We pay ours 35 an hour, and tip as and when we have change, or if we haven't done so for a couple of weeks, then at the end of the month we'll slip in a 50 or 100 if it's a religious holiday. We also give her lots of stuff we don't need any more. This week she'll be receiving an old [but still working!'> pair of GHDs, a Nicky Clarke hairdryer, and an M&S dressing gown!

Thank you all! Looks like I'm paying way too much? Might change agency...although the lady they send me is very good. I don't think AED45 an hour is too much IF you're very happy with the person they send you (and if they don't cancel on you last minute, arrive several hours late [or several hours early: I'll never forget the persistent ringing on the doorbell and loud mobile phone conversation outside my bedroom window about how 'madam isn't home' AT 6.45AM!!!'>, send a different cleaner every week etc etc). I completely gave up on agencies several years ago because of all their antics, and would happily pay 45 an hour if I knew I'd get consistency and a cleaner I was happy with. An extra aed10-20 (or more...) at the end of her shift, cash in hand, will be appreciated I'm sure, and is worth it if you're happy with her work.

45 an hour is too much. There are many agencies that charge 30 or 35 per hour. Going back to your question, i give the change as tips, usually like 10 or 20 AED depending on the number pf hours i book.
