Du mobile reception

Is it just me or is the Du-reception very very bad? I live in Arabian Ranches and regularly calls get disconnected or people simply can't here me anymore . The other day I was in MOE and didn't have any reception at all despite my phone showing several bars of signal. My phone is new so I am certain that that is not the problem.

Do other people have the same problem? I'm trying to decide whether complaining to Du will work, or if I should just switch over to Etisalat... any thoughts?

I subscribed to Du when I first arrived in Dubai nearly 4 yrs ago and the reception was just terrible. Gave up and subscribed to Etisalat, which I've never had a problem with since...I don't use my mobile very much I have to say, but I need it to be reliable when I need to make a call....

Am definitely going to wait until I can keep my number, but then switching over as DH has Etisalat and he seems to have no problems. It's funny how some things are so advanced here and with other things they seem to be years behind. Don't even get me started on paying bills here... the fact that you still need to stand in line baffles me and can be so frustrating. we pay ours online .....

I have had endless problems with Du reception, texts not being received/sent etc, etc etc. I've been a customer for 4 years! Luckily I have no mates so it doesn't matter too much, but I'd never want to rely on my phone in a crisis! I've been using Du since 2008 and I've had no reception in elevators, basement parking lots and both kitchens of the apartments I've lived in....so.....not relying on it in a crisis either :(

I'm not sure it depends on where you live. I think that overall in Dubai Etisalat has better reception, but maybe I'm mistaken. Is there anyone who has good experiences with Du mobile reception? I don't really want to change my number again... we're all DU and have had no issues apart from teen having to argue every month over his internet usage lol

@em2san the process you refer to is MNP - Mobile Number Portability. It has been available in the Uk for 10 plus years but only now can they get their act together here, probably sometime in the next few weeks. Personally whatever network you're on I wouldnt recomend changing because the system here is not robust and I would anticipate quite a few problems with no form of resolution. I didn't mention MNP cause I wasn't sure how many people would know what it stood for :) Actually, I'm very excited that they're finally going to have it in UAE because someone told me that they "might" even have an option where I can use the call and sms service from Etisalat but the mobile data package from DU - that'd be pretty cool!

I have to agree with PetaJ, mobile reception does depend on the locality. For example, TECOM area has better DU reception. Because you mentioned that you didn't want to change your number, I just wanted to let you know that this summer, Etisalat and DU are supposed to launch a solution where you can keep your existing number [056-xyz-abcd'> but switch over to Etisalat service and billing.

Du mobile was useless when I lived at JBR. I changed to Etisalat which I find better and more stable but I expect it depends on where you live/work.
