My passport runs out in less than 10 months and I would like to have it renewed nowish, in readiness for holiday plans in August. A dummy step by step guide of who, what, where etc. would be greatly appreciated. Also, what happens to the visa page in the old passport please? TIA EW ladies.

Just to add, we had to send it all to Paris at the time the Geneva Consulate gave up the ghost, and it took from Friday to the following Tuesday or Wednesday to go there and back via DHL. No hassle. Expensive, but no hassle. (And less expensive than personal return flight DBX LHR!)

Make an appointment for 8am, fly to London, head to passport office in Victoria, hand over documents, hop on tube to Green Park, head to Fortnum's for breakfast, back on tube to Victoria, collect passport and back to LHR. Fly back to Dubai with new passport after a couple of hours. Sounds crazy, but having just done this, its quicker and less stressful than dealing with this send everything to Dusseldorf nonsense. And it's no wonder you're Grumpy ;)

Thanks MB. Good to see that your head is still definitely on.
