So, we had the FA over the other day and the usual this is the best place to put your funds.... Have been burnt with so many expensive start up costs and low performance plans that at a loss with what to do or who to trust to manage our nest egg. Any advice?

Personally I think finance and banking is now very sales driven and I suspect your FA, even though accredited (does that really mean anything?) will be paid commission upfront on the sale of this bond. With interest rates where they are right now you may as well put it on time deposit. Sometimes you do not have to do anything and right now doing nothing might be the right course until things smooth out globally. At least my FA and I are on the same page; am sitting on cash until something I think is worth investing in comes along.

Nutty - No financial investments you make whilst living here in the UAE should be managed from the UK, everything should be offshore othewise you could be liable for tax and are also not allowed to save that much anyways. Please also don't tell me he came to see you off a Cold Call? My boss who is an IFA has 29 experience in the FSA industry, 20 in the UK, 9 here in Dubai. We are the only UAE based FA company who works solely on referrals, we never cold call and we have an ever increasing client base. I would be more than happy to arrange for him to visit you on Sunday? Let me know if you would like more details. Or you can visit us under the Finance section on the left hand side - we are the company beginning with P.

Just saw a new one and he is from the only accredited uk FSA company in Dubai? Problem is he is 27 and wants us to put our money into some sort of bond. No problem, but what does concern me is how much experience he could have with a long term bond at 27. Phoned the company and will be managed more from uk and it has tax benefits, just dont ant to be burned again.

Ask your friends, the best FA is one who is recommended by a friend who has investments with them - themselves.

It can be a minefield, but I hate it when the industry as a whole is slagged off - but even a trusted and good IFA can confuse if you are not that financially minded!

Nutty - Are you not convinced by your current FA then?
