Check they are fruit flies! We had these after our vacation and they were actually drain flies. As the water hadn't been run for a while. We located which drain they were coming from, then opened it pulled out any hair or residue they were nesting in then a few kettles of boiling water and a lot of bleach down it. Carried on with the kettles for a week and never seen any since then!

Thank goodness Im not the only one, I wake up in the morning and my kitchen is full of the furry little flying beasties! I thought they were coming up through my drains? Will try the vinegar trick thanks!

Mine's shaped like a tennis racquet but you can get the static ones that collect any dead flies at the bottom. Good luck - I detest flies!

The electric fly zapper sounds great. Will try it out. Thanks.

I suppose it could momoftwo but rather than a small dish for the fruit flies (ramekin size) you'd need a large one and then they wouldn't die as quickly as the tiny fruit flies so could be quite disgusting! I use an electric fly zapper for them - works great!

Hi chirpy - nasty little things, I used to get them a lot. You need to break the breeding cycle so it will take a couple of days. I put a small dish of balsamic vinegar or youghurt (works a treat) on a table and cover tightly with clingfilm. Put a few small holes in the top (about small finger size) 1 or 2 should be enough. The flies will be attracted to the smell, will crawl in through the holes and then be unable to get out. Be patient as it can take a couple of days but it should work. Good luck!
