I took the leap and got myself some gelish nails. They look lovely but today they have started to peel and chip! Ive only had the polish on for 5 days. Isnt it supposed to be chip/peel free for 2-3 weeks?

I thought that Gelish would not be very healthy for my nails. But, I have been using it for more than 8-9 months. I skip it every now and then and put regular polish. It lasts up to 3, even 4 weeks. Tthe problem is when the nail grows longer, it is not very pretty as you have parts that are not polished. And, my nails have never been healthier.

I think if I go back to have it redone it will probably happen again. Dont have time to go regularly to the salon. I just bought artificiial nail remover at Spinneys and it seems to take off the nailpolish nicely. Will go to a wellknown salon next time that has proven themselves good with gel nailpolish.

I've been having mine done at a well known chain since last summer and never had any problems, however I tried a salon closer to home and within 1 week the colour was peeling off. I went to speak to them and they agreed to re do my nails, here I am 1 week later with peeling colour. I obviously won't be having nails done closer to home again!

It shouldn't happen. You might find the topcoat peels off a bit later but the underneath should stay! Mine stays for up to 3 weeks and then have had it redone . I would definitely go back and let them see and ask for them to do again. I get mine done at the Nail Spa . edited by spongemonkey on 30/03/2011

I had this done once last September and when it was removed my nails were dry and flakey, I would never have it done again as they took almost 6 months to recover!

when they put on the gel coats yes, 2 min but in the early stage my hand stayed under while she did the other, so my nails were under the light for quite a while. Did that make any sense at all? when she was finished with the next hand, she did the final 2 coats on the UV hand and back under it went. I dont think my hands were hanging around doing nothing most of the time. now, that just does not sound right but i KNOW WHAT i MEAN LOL...

Each layer was left under UV for 2 minutes. Is that correct?

it should not peel or chip at all. I would go back to the salon and have them redo them. Sounds as if they did not leave your nails under the UV long enough.
