Getting a job in Dubai

I've been actively searching for a job for the past four or five months now, with absolutely no success. Mostly been looking for receptionist positions, but I've tried a few other avenues as well.
I've heard that it's all about who you know in a company and unfortunately I don't know anybody who can help me out.

All the jobs postings I've found require so much experience within the UAE, but, having grown up in the UAE, how am I supposed to get any experience within a job when they all require past experience to get one in the first place? All the postings requiring no experience that have written back to me come off as dodgy, one of them even argued with me that I sent a fake picture along with my CV, posing as somebody.

I've been doing promo work for the past six years, but I want to settle down and get a regular source of income and start working towards a life and build experience and a possible career path. I'm young and polite and presentable. It's making me feel completely helpless and frustrated.

I've tried classifieds in newspapers, recruitment agencies, expat woman job listings, dubizzle, Gnad4u, etc...

Anybody out there in the same boat? or have been in the same boat and managed to transfer into a more successful and happier moreso-employed boat? Any tips? helpful websites/info? Anything that could help would be appreciated.

I am in exactly the same position. I have a 12 year finance background and have been looking for admin/receptionist roles. I also have no UAE experience as only been here 6 months. It is more difficult than I had envisaged. I am not pulling my hair out yet, but if it was the start of my career I think I would be more worried. I know that it has taken friends of friends 8-9 months to find a job and again she had an aquaintance working for the firm. I'm a believer that things happen for a reason so I am optimistic that the right post for me may turn up - it may be as we are on our way back to UK but hey-ho!;)

Have you tried posting an advert on Dubizzle? Under Jobs Wanted? Worked for me! Within 24 hours I received about 20 phonecalls asking to submit my cv or for an interview. List your qualifications, experience, skills, nationality and a bit about yourself. Warning: I did have a few strange phonecalls, but there is the option for them just to reply to you by email. Best of luck.

Analyst you are less likely to get a job if your interviewers perceive you to be "settling" for a role in ops you probably won't get the job. Many operations managers see it as their career and you will need to be careful you don't come across as just waiting for an analyst or trading role. Good luck in your search, it's not an easy time to be looking for a job in finance, no matter what level you are.

Are you in the UAE already? If not then it can be very difficult as employers find it much easier to recruit people who are already in the country. One of my friends works as a receptionist and she found her job through an agency called Miller Hay, another friend found an admin job through Michael Page agency.
