hi ladies! hope some of you have experience and can help me out! my partner and i are getting married ..
it seem so cumbersome to actually do it here.. so we are thinking to elope and get married either in one of our home countries or somewhere completely different!

we are both from (different) commonwealth countries.. so my questions are ;

1. if we get married abroad, i think we should be getting the marriage certificate legalised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office or equivalent AND Get it attested by the UAE Embassy in that country?

2. what would be the next steps in the UAE, do we have to do anything with our respective country embassies?

3. and is there a time limit on how long it must be registered here? (i.e. if we continue to live apart then there is no issue on delaying registration? )

4. if i wanted to take my partner's last name, would i would then have to get new passport and re do my current employment visa and all related paperwork? or can i delay adoption of last name ?

your comment and guidance is appreciated! thanks!!

kc.

i've not done marriage certificates before, but if it's anything like uni certs... we had to send to UK for attestation, then it goes to the UAE embassy, and then comes back here to go to UAE officials again (i forget what and where... i'll try find out and get back to you) sorry i can't answer #3... and for #4, i went through a similar process. officially on all documents i still have my maiden name, i'm waiting for visa/passport renewal to change it to my married name... less hassle
