We were just at the Meridian Al Aqah a few weekends ago and were not particulary impressed by it. It seemed to be mostly full of guests who going by their wrist bands were on some sort of AI holiday package. We felt it had the feel of a 3 star hotel in Benidorm, despite being anything but cheap. ooooh never seen that before - perhaps they had sold out to a big group..... They all seemed to be of one nationality.

Le meridien usually also have vouchers inthe entertainer book which really makes a difference - Taste their thai restaurant is superb - Swaad their indian is good and the Gonu bar on the beach is fantastic.

Hi there We're just looking for something similar and have settled on Sandy Beach which looks nice and we know someone who has been there and enjoyed it. It's not a high-end chain but there are some nice aspects to it that I liked the sound of, and accommodation is chalet-style. I've also found that by emailing reservations (wherever you think you'd like to stay) and explain that you're a UAE resident, and aski for special offers, a discount is usually forthcoming! Hilton and Intercon Hotel Group are all doing weekend sale rates too, which might help!

Thanks for all your replies - you're right, I need to phone the hotels as there's nothing on the websites themselves.

I've tried the meridian and the rotana, I like them both, but think the pool at the rotana is best for little kids as its shallow all the way round...
