It actually states on their contract that there should be a written record of salary in Eng and Arabic! We have settled for English and I keep a simple spreadsheet. It's also handy for reviewing ie when she had hols, when we paid bonus, air fare, loans etc etc.

When I had a maid, I paid cash and gave a receipt, just one of those small receipt book type ones, I give her one, one stays in the book. I remember ages ago somebody did not give receipt and maid accused employer of not paying any wages and it all went pair shaped for them. Also a thread on here a while back where the maid stole the receipt book so best kept safe, just in case. So my advice would be to just do a simple receipt.

We pay cash monthly, and give documented receipts (we hold one in our ringbinder with all of her employment details in the safe) and she takes one home - she signs both copies in recognition of payment. On the receipt, I note the pay period, any annual leave or sick days she has taken during that time. On the back of the reciept I note anything we have had to discuss around her performance. This means she can never say she hasn't been paid, or missed out on leave (not that I have any concerns with her around this happening with her) but I would rather eliminate the risk before it happens.

Cash. No receipts, but I know lots of people keep a pay book, with the date, amount paid and their help's signature. Hmmm, should probably do that myself!
