I need some advice for my mother in Dubai

Hello,

I live with my husband in Dubai, and also work here. My mother is also a Dubai resident and has lived here for over 10 years. The problem is that she's got a lot of free time, and is not working. The last few years were harsh on her... I want her to get busy. I know she wants to work, she wants to add meaning to her life.

Unfortunately my mother does not have much professional experience. She has a Bachelor's degree in Science, but has only worked for a few years as the head of a children's nursery (and that was more than 10 years ago). She is VERY passionate about baking and cake decorating, and her cakes are the best I ever had. She is very talented, and very proud of her cake work. I wish I could get her to start a career in this field but we don't know where to start from. I wanted to open up a small parisserie or cakery for her here in Dubai, but sadly the costs are way out of hand. Everybody loves her cakes.

Any suggestions/advice, ladies? I really want to put a smile on this beautiful lady's face...

Well, there is absolute Black & Absolute White. And then there is grey in between. What I am getting at is, legally you can't offer a service for money without license. However I do see Dubai has opened up to lot more of Shared Economy concepts, though I don't know if the rules have relaxed. I wish there was more freedom to do what you are naturally good at, without having to shell out over $20,000 to start. I have heard some people talk of Freelancer license but that is usually in Tech industry like for Media City etc. Good luck.

Hi, I totally understand ur feelings n concern about ur mom ...n clessani1's suggestion is right.. ur mom can start by baking for friends n family etc n slowly when people vil c th good work, she vil get orders n so on....good luck..:cool: Thanks for the support :) Like I told clessanil, this activity is illegal in Dubai and I would never ever want to involve my mother in something that is against the law. I would love to get her licensed but unfortunately the license costs a good sum of money, which we cannot afford at this stage... :(

Even you can't open for her license business, you can let her do small business by starting promoting her cakes on pre order basis from your friends and colleagues.Slowly2x when everyone taste her cakes they will order and recommend to other friends around. Good luck! Thank you for that :) The problem is that we already used to do this, and she was VERY successful - all neighbours started ordering from her, and referring her to their friends, etc. However I recently found out that this activity is illegal in Dubai, as people are not allowed to sell food from their houses without a license. So we immediately stopped it just for that.
