I was so upset after reading a lot of these comments. I am a dog owner, and I cannot afford to stay at home so i work, and I have a housemaid who absolutely loves our dog and loves to walk him, even when we r home, we all share the responsibility of walking him and always cleaning up after him so just because a maid is walking a dog doesnt mean the owner is an a**. Banning anything that just bugs u is so ridiculous, u will have ppl who are careless in so many ways and they cannot be avoided or banished, dog owners wont clean up, parents who let children scream and throw tantrums on the floors of malls, drivers who take up 95 spaces, i could go on forever. Nobody likes to find any kind of s*** anywhere, of course, but what about all the other **** everywhere that never gets cleaned up i dont like seeing someone else's garbage or leftover fast food in front of my house but i do, do we ban mcdonalds? I wud be upset just like jwal, but i would approach the neighbors or security or whoever and say please keep your **** away from my house. and i live in jvt and it is awful there and i get so madddd when i am picking up after my dog but i still see all this **** everywhere and wonder why im the only one picking up **** especially cuz there is so much more **** all over than dog sh**, to be honest my dog's **** is probably a lot cleaner than all of that awful garbage and chemicals and debris everywhere. and by jwal saying she doesnt care in re to dogs getting banned that is the same attitude the person leaving the **** has - not caring about fellow neighbors and others. i would leave the country with my dog if they were banned in a second - that animal is far better than most ppl nowadays sad to say.

If it takes extreme measures ie. banning dogs from residential zones then so be it, so long as I don't have to deal with dog sh!t I really don't care. :\: So what are we going to do with the ones we have? Do we just put them down, or live in the desert ourselves? Do you even know what you are saying?? Just find out who does this and don't take it out on all the dog owners. And take something to relax, it is just poo for God's sakes.. Honestly, I think you have no real problems in life, so creating some..

Well in my area in Jumeria I think the maids do enjoy "walking" the dogs. I say it like this because I see a whole group of them standing still talking, laughing, and sometimes fighting while the dogs just sit there with the leash shortened. I have passed them on the road like this, gone grocery shopping for @20 minutes, and come back to see the same scene in the same spot. Not much of a walk for the dogs and they look miserable

I have a dog. And to all those that go on a bashing spree about "forcing the maid to take the dog for a walk, shame, poor sad maid", Id like to say this... I would like to walk my dog, but Im aware that where we live, there isnt exactly a social meeting place for the maids to go out. When she walks the dog, she gets to see a few of her friends around and about, who are walking dogs, taking kids out for a walk etc. And she was the one who asked if she could take him for walks. Its also a bit challenging when both of you work, sometimes its not possible to walk the dog... She carries a plastic bag with her, and Ive seen her pick up after the dog (she didnt know I was watching). If I was walking the dog, Id pick up after him. If she's walking the dog, I expect the same of her. I guess my post is just to point out that making assumptions based on only a little bit of information really isnt fair. You tar all of us with the same brush, its not really unlike racism/sexism etc... "Youre a white person from Zimbabwe, do you beat the black people who work for you?", "Youre a woman, you couldnt possibly do the job properly", "You have a dog, you obviously dont pick up after it so rather we just cull off all dogs in Dubai".... I don't think anyone said anything about forcing a maid to take a dog for a walk! I just don't want to wake up to find dog sh!t on my drive! If it takes extreme measures ie. banning dogs from residential zones then so be it, so long as I don't have to deal with dog sh!t I really don't care. So along those same veins of thought, Ive seen people whose kids have thrown up in shopping malls and rather than them stop and try to clean up, they hurry away. I dont have kids, and think that a puddle of vomit in the walkway is disgusting... Should we ban kids? Different parts of my post were in response to various posts "just maybe some inconsiderate ignorant owners should move their backside from the sofa and take the responsability to take the dogs out and not waiting for the maids to do it" " shame on all the "dog owners" " "to start a petition to ban dogs in dubai completely because their owners do not take proper care of them" I really don't know what you are blathering on about! Would you like to find dog sh!t on your drive in the mornings?

Infact i said some owners not all of them....there are people that need the maid to walk the dogs cos they work and there are some that just cant b bothered, its a matter of fact. But as you i dont think a ban is the ideal solution, otherwise ,as already said, Dubai would bcome the city with hundreds of banning laws!!!people have pets all over the world so y should it b a problem in the UAE? because of the dog sh!t on the pavements.

B Lets be honest here dog owner, not dog owner, Dubai is full of lazy complacent filth that can't be bothered to do anything for themselves and treat the place like a wasteland. I know it's only January but can I nominate this for quote of the year? Yes, I like this quote too! So appropriate! ha.

think i really will feel sorry for maids if they have to pick up someone else's dog's sh!t... yuk !!! no wonder they look so miserable when they walk them... Why? its not such a big deal, scoop up pop in a bag and into the bin. It's not like they're being asked to pick up poop with their bare hands.... dog sh!t is just disgusting full stop... Banning all dogs seems a little unreasonable, I have two dogs myself and always pick up after them, there's enough animal hatred in Dubai without all this. The general dog hatred and cruelty here is shocking. What will we do with all these banned dogs? I suppose you would think it fair to have them all destroyed? A lot of people in Dubai speed and drive dangerously, should we ban all cars because of irresponsible drivers? There is a simple solution, in fact it's one that has been used with cars. Fines. Petition the municipality to create a dog police. All dogs must wear municipality tags therefore if an owner is seen walking say 20m away from where the dog has gone to toilet and not picking up then they get a fine, 5000AED (that's a reasonably big fine). The tag number of their dog is taken and the microchip checked at the same time as the fine is given. If the maid is the one that doesn't pick up her employers will be pretty annoyed pretty quickly. If you get fined a second time it's 10,000AED and a third it's 50,000AED, fourth time, you go to jail for a month (that's the owner of the dog not the person walking it) for erm damage to public property? The fines can be used to employ the dog police and also people to clean up areas where people haven't picked up and haven't been caught... yet. Those that don't pick up will learn their lesson quite quickly and the municipality will make a bit of money from it. Then all the nice people that do look after their dogs can keep their dogs and all the irresponsible owners will get big fines and maybe arrested and deported. On another topic perhaps they can go out to the desert and shoot all the people that leave bags of trash everywhere? That or fine them as well. Lets be honest here dog owner, not dog owner, Dubai is full of lazy complacent filth that can't be bothered to do anything for themselves and treat the place like a wasteland. Yes, this is a great suggestion, I'm with fines all the way and dog police.

Why oh why must someone's job description be attached to this act? Has it ever occurred to you that the dog owners themselves could care less and are leaving the dog poop on the pavement themselves? How about just a civil: "Pick up after your pets" title? Because whilst I have been observing all the dog walkers in my neighbourhood, it would appear that only the maids and gardeners are responsible for this duty, therefore I am appealing to the dog owners on here if they are employing their staff to walk their dogs. Hope this answers your questions Gleek. <em>edited by jwal on 12/01/2011</em>

Oh this is a pet hate of mine! Back home we have two alsatians and a collie - we always had to pick up after them, it's just common courtesy! I think it's a typical attitude here from some owners who believe they are too high and mighty to pick up their own dog's poop. There's a guy where we live who walks his obese rotty off leash every day around the green areas, and just watches as it poos and pees all over people's balcony walls and in the grass (where kids play in the evenings!!). I have seen this dog go for other dogs on two occasions, but still no leash :( The worst one now is the beach in front of JBR - I no longer go there as I find it gross to navigate through all the poo. WRT maids walking dogs - in my mind, it comes down to the owner. The owner should make an effort to walk their own dog whenever possible. Having seen maids ignore kids in their charge, I'd be surprised if many are at all bothered about dogs in their care.

In my neighborhood there's a plump blonde woman with a German accent who walks her dog off lead and lets it **** in front of my house. Then there's the small pretty dark haired mum with the French accent who does the same with her two dogs, the guy across the street who wears a dishdash and a kouma who lets his dogs run wild, and a tall bald guy with a British accent who walks his two very large black dogs without a care in the world as to where they ****. How do I know which are maids and which are gardeners? None of them use leashes or scoop the poop.

Article in the gulf news recently see link http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/abide-by-health-rules-while-walking-dogs-owners-told-1.742289 - but really loved this comment Maha, a university student admitted she doesn't clean her dog's waste. "I like to walk my dog daily. I never clean after [it dirties the place'> except if the dog dirties the main road and someone actually sees the incident, otherwise I ignore it," Maha said. "However from now on I have no choice but to respect the new regulations, and if the housemaid is with me I will ask her to do the cleaning," she added Says it all really! Lazy mare she doesn't even see anything wrong in this statement PICK IT UP YOURSELF IT'S YOUR DOG!

With all the respect stop being so radical saying you want to ban dogs!!!!I have 2 dogs and me as other responsible owners DO pick up their p..-i can just say that maybe, just maybe some inconsiderate ignorant owners should move their backside from the sofa and take the responsability to take the dogs out and not waiting for the maids to do it,cos times and times again i ve witnessed maids not to care a wink bout clear after the dog!!!Its up to the owners and their maids to clean!!!otherwise there are countless things and habits that should b banned in Dubai, are we gonna start an intolerance war?i hope not!!!!i ve seen gardeners spittin outside my house, shall i ask for a petition to ban them?dont think so.Catch the idiot definetely but dont think dog owners are all the same!!!!!

I hope you find the culprit. I have dogs, but I also have kids and I hate them stepping in dog shyt because someone can't be bothered to pick up. I have been caught out by one of the dogs taking a second dump after I've run out of bags, and that's embarrassing, but unlikely to be the case if it's happening every day.
