Totally agree, we have just found out that our maid who we sponsered only 4 months ago has been working somewhere else. we have reported and put a ban on her and cancelled her visa at the moment shes a run away but her brothers boss is helping to track her down, so hopefully ill get her on that plane.
We also made it clear that she must not work for others, at immigration she even had the cheek to blame my dh and said we let her work at other places she did not care one litte bit what she put my children through and that we would prob loose everything and our life in dubai if she got caught before we caught her.
We have the mans detail of who she was working for do we give this to the police or do u think its more trouble than its worth?
i would have thought they would ask u at immagration if u knew who she worked for part time but they dont seem to care :@
To much AGRO for a bit of cleaning so im with an agency from now on.
We also know of a friend of a friend who recently got caught hiring someone elses maid .
Dont do it.
The point here is that the human rights people have insisted on immigration writing it into a maids contract that she should receive a day off.
A day off work is fine. But a day off the premises is not. Now and then, she may go shopping etc for a few hours, but to be routinely absent from her room is not a good thing.
If you were to ask an official how you can guarantee this will not happen with you and your maid, they will tell you to keep them within eyeshot.
I used to work for the government here in Dubai, and only worked until 12.20pm. I was not allowed to take on another job though, and would never have done so without permission.
hmmm...
Don't think you needed to change your user ID for this, I would say the other person you refer to already knows exactly who you are and that you are referring to them !
Thank you for posting.
Just a question : If you had a paper signed by your maid, saying that she is not allowed to work outside and understand the consequences if she does and release you from any responsibilities, would your hubby (as the sponsor) have been out of problems?
It's just a question, wondering if a sponsor can protect himself from an act that he doesn't agree but can't do much (you can't be behind the back of your maid all the time during her free time...).
I doubt as this is less money going to the gouvernment...
For now, I don't see other solution than keep the maid @ home during her free time. Not fun for both parts...

Terrible story but glad that all is almost sorted now.
Another reason why you shouldn't let your maids stay out at the weekend. Sorry to say it, but most if not all maids hired by westerners and who are allowed to stay out all weekend are working part time somewhere else.

Thanks...we're new here and and must confess we've had a someone else's maid on a p-t basis however I hadn't realised the penalties were so steep. It's going a bit wrong now anyway (and you can relax as I shan't bore you with that), so we're going to stop and get agency maids from now on. Appreciate your warning though
Again, thanks for posting.
This concerned me too. I had told my maid that she was NOT to work elsewhere and what the repercussions would be if she did. It always niggled me that if she worked for others without our knowledge we would still get into trouble for something we knew nothing about.
I hope you get it all sorted asap.
