Has anyone been recently and can recommend who to book with / where to go for the best in April.

We're thinking fly to Nairobi with AirArabia and hit the safari trail from there, but not having been since 1985ish it's been a long time.

TIA

I went to Kenya - Masai Mara & Lake Nakuru in January and it was great weather. We saw the big 5 and Lake Nakuru was full of flamingoes which made the lake look pink in colour. It was breathtaking. We booked thru Dnata Holidays and got a great deal. You can call them at 8008118 & ask them to send you a quotation. All the best for your holiday.

We booked our flight with Qatar Airways and the whole week trip in Kenya was organised by Diederik from Go2Africa. You tell him exactly what you want to do and he will tailor your holiday as per your request/budget. We spent a day and 1 night at Lake Nakurubefore flying to Masai Mara for a few nights and flew back to Nairobi. Had our breakfast on the bonnet of the 4X4 in the middle of Masai under a tree surrounded by Wilde Beasts.. surreal. Saw the BIG 5 and more ... Can't recommend Diederik enough - he has lived and travelled in most part of Africa and is VERY knowledgeable in recommending clients what to do/see during their time .... Email: Diederik van den Hoeke - [email protected] (you can tell him, you got his contact details from Belgian family in Dubai)

we're doing the AirArabia 6day/5night package - you can choose which lodges/hotels you want to stay in subject to availability from the options they give. Good value too - 4460 in April per adult.

i flew air arabia in november and it was v cheap. you have to pay more for your flight down to the masai mara. it ain't cheap overall but so amazing. we were told to avoid november as it's out of migration season, but to be honest, we preferred it, it was quite crowded enough never mind how packed it gets then. we stayed here - utter bliss! http://www.sanctuaryretreats.com/lodges/kenya/olonana.cfm

dubai2003, that is the question S-D and I have been trying to work out. DH has made several phonecalls to various lodges, who have all come back with favourable reports for April re more animal sitings as they come out to play more because of the weather. They've also said April is not an issue re the rains (but equally that's luck of the draw we think). We are going in the Easter holidays yippee! Can't wait to get away for a bit.

cripes that's ridiculous - 4 adults with AirArabia is 17840! Does it include little airplane trips or something to get you there?

is that from Emirates finally? Or the same package I emailed you for AirArabia - if so that's ridiculous compared to what they quoted us per adult - how does that compute? Still not heard from Emirates. Think we are going to risk the rains and go for it! DH going to phone a few of the lodges later today to try and get some on the ground info re the rains in April (whether it will be honest info is another matter lol) - will let you know what he finds out.

lol that's lazy! Can't think of where else to go - older DD not too good on the health front at the moment (long story) and was really keen on this idea, so really don't want to disappoint her - neither are into beach holidays (nor are DH and me), and wanted a 'doing' holiday with animals included. Will investigate further and let you know if I find other options elsewhere - Sri Lanka has animals doesn't itl!!

I'm not sure what to do now. I want to get away in that week of April (sanity break) but don't want to be washed out and regret going.

for weather have a look at this - ghastly colour, but the most informative! http://www.climatetemp.info/kenya/ yeah, we knew April would be wet, but how wet is another question, and whether the gamepark tracks are drive-able (is that a word?) is yet another one.... Trouble is then you're waiting til June, and we wanted to get away for April and DDs are really up for this. edited by october on 11/02/2011

Thanks, October. The only info I could find on the website shows 2 shorter packages but only until the end of March. ETA. I haven;t looked into anti-malaria requirements yet, nor the weather! edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 11/02/2011 edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 11/02/2011

morning S-D - if you post your email address, I'll forward you what the sent me - it's basically the package they're advertising. DH's concern is being in tented camp if it's chucking it down with rain.... Do you know if you need malaria tablets?

April is when I want to go too - school holidays. October, did Air Arabia give you info about the package - itinerary/accom etc? That's a good price.
