A man in off-white shalwar khameez, with a short beard and dark tan, rang our bell at dinner and insisted he was the new gardener sent by 'the company'. When I told him (over the gate phone) that we have a gardner already he became adamant and when I told him to please leave he began buzzing our gate phone repeatedly. Luckily, DH's car was just pulling up and the man ran off.
He also tried to enter my neighbors house, her carport was open, but her DH was home at the time and shooed him off.
We live in the neighborhood near JESS.
Please be extra cautious about who you let into your gate!

Koolestmum- was just trying to warn the ladies to be cautious if encountering this man, not panicking. He rang the bell at 6:30p and when I told him I did not need a gardner he became absolutely insistent. Every legitimate gardener I've encountered here has approached us during daytime (so they can see what kind of garden we have...) AND has been extremely polite and pleasant. This man was not, he was quite frightening. Considering my neighbor AND Cafe au lait had the same experience, I stand by my interpretation of what happened. Keep safe.

Our maintenance guy told me recently to be very careful as there has been thefts in our area. A couple days ago, I was accosted by a guy coming out of the building site behind us and begging for money. There are many desperate unemployed people and some will try their luck for a bit of work too. When we moved in, within 10 mns the removal guys had left, the doorbell started ringing and we had 7 gardeners, 3 maids and various car cleaners offering to work for us pretending their were already working for our neighbours! at first I got a bit scared but none were aggressive. It is just the way people go about business here. They come and ring your doorbell. They got a polite no and none has ever come since!

Wasn't this a similar story to one up in the Ranches or maybe the Springs area? Maybe a 'group' scam going on, trying to suss out places? If he was genuine surely he would have tried to speak to the husband, not have run off!

the very facts that he was insistent at the doorbell and trying to follow the husband to the house shows to me atleast that he did not have bad intentions but may have had something to say. otherwise he would have come at a time you were alone. language may be a contributing factor here. maybe your gardener subcontracted some work to this guy without your knowledge and now is having him collect from you. please do attempt to get the whole story from him before panicking...maybe the security staff can help with the language issue.

In such situations like this, where is my garden hose, it always come handy, so it help me spraying water on the plants, and unwanted intruders.

The guy was not lost, he was pushy, aggressive and would not leave. He was trying to follow my husband into the house. You had this guy come too?! He was creepy, eh? Sorry Dentro, if you had encountered him for even a minute you would know he was up to something not good!

In my opinion the poor guy was lost and couldn't find the house where he was sent. You could have helped by asking some name or anything he knows. Or ring the company that sent him.
