Good morning to you all,

I would like to have some help when I move to Dubai ( no idea about schools or housing yet ). I want to have a live out maid who comes twice weekly. Do I have to sponsor her for visa and how much you think I should pay her ? Do I have to use an agency services for that ?

Thanks

If you do a search, you will find a LOT of threads discussing good/bad/indifferent agencies for part-time help. What you absolutely must do, once you decide upon an agency, is to insist upon a helper that works best for you. Do NOT put up with someone who doesn't have the requisite amount of English (or experience) with which you feel comfortable. Moreover, DO also ensure that once you have a maid you like, that [i'>you have the same maid every single day of the week[/i'> on which you employ help. In that way, you can develop a relationship with her so that she does things YOUR way, and you can also be assured that you can build trust together. This will also assist you if you want to tip her - on occasion - for a job well done, to ask for any extra special jobs to be done, and so that you and your family get to know her and she gets to know your routine. Having a different person each week is awful; you need regularity, and once you have both established a system together, you need to be able to not worry about this particular part of your life. NB. Despite many (all?) agencies insisting that their employees are experienced, you will have to spend a few weeks training your helper to do things your way. This is par for the course. Just so you know. :)

Thank you guys that made it clear in my mind :) I don't like to have a maid around all the time I want to enjoy some me alone time and also some privacy with my kids and husband so I think an agency would be the best choice and fingers crossed end up with a good cleaner. I don't mind doing some chores and my own cooking, my kids are growing so helping a little bit more with their rooms which consumes a lot of time ;) . It is going to be for the big jobs like windows , floor sweeping etc. Thanks

Agency charges vary and are nothing to do with their quality. I've paid from AED25 to AED 45 per hour. Currently paying AED35 for someone who unfortunately doesn't understand my English..

Yes you can do this through an agency. Usually they charge 35 aed an hour. This ends up for the two days almost as much as the full time salary you would pay, but hey, consider the following: no visa expenses, no flight expense, no hassle with papers, no food allowance or accommodation by you, if you do not get along you can easily ask the agency to send other, you will get a substitute if she is on leave or sick, etc. all in all, still good deal.

When we talk about a live-out maid, that would be a full-time maid on our sponsorship, usually. For what you want, an agency maid is the way to go, no need for you to sponsor them. There are a huge number of maid agencies here, I know, I think I have tried them all. None of them springs to mind as outstanding, it's often just the luck of the draw. People will recommend agencies based on their own good experience but often unless you are able to get the same maid, you won't necessarily be pleased.

For part time and live out, your best bet is going to be using a service. The costs for sponsoring a maid are high and you take on considerable responsibility by doing so--if she's caught working for someone else, you owe a AED 50,000 fine and she will be deported. If she's only working 2 days per week, she wouldn't be earning enough to live out anyway. There are plenty of services and you won't have a difficult time finding someone for 2 days per week.
